Tex Mex is awesome, just a bit different.

Typically dishes that are cheese heavy are Tex Mex. Real Mexican food would use Queso Fresco. Also, authentic Mexican enchiladas would have mole, green sauce, or red sauce.

I think Tex-Mex is garbage, but I don't judge those who like it. There are plenty who do. But, they should realize that they are not eating Mexican food.

Houston's coastline isn't much and Houston itself is not even that close to the coast...it's not like it's right on the coast like NYC, SF, Miami, Boston, or LA. Using the coast as if that adds to the scenery of Houston is a little ridiculous. The Gulf Coast isn't anything to right home about anyway.

Houston is not right on the coast, but it is right near it, close enough to contribute meaningfully to the way of life in the city. Houston's situation actually is similar to LA's in regards to access to coast; like in Houston, LA's CBD/urban core is quite inland from the coast, yet, nevertheless, it still has strong affinities with beach culture.

The Houston Metro has miles and miles of coastline, featuring all sorts of scenery ranging from beaches, to marsh/mangrove wetlands, to subtropical bottomland forest; the Houston metro even has relatively close access to scuba-diving spots. All kinds of resorts are present in the Houston area to capitalize on this abundant water culture.

We are speaking in terms of Metros here if not then Maybe we can't include Fort worth as part of the Dallas experience either. And if Fw is not apart of DFW then this thread is over ,Houston wins hands down. Houston is a seafaring Metro and city. The turning basin of the Houston ship Channel is actually inside the loop a mere 5 to 10 minute drive from downtown. Galveston Bay is probably about the same distance to Downtown Houston as Stone Mountain or whatever that rock is called is to Downtown Atlanta and its (Galveston Bay) closer to DT Houston than FW is to Dallas, and I doubt you can get on a Cruise ship to the Caribbean from anywhere close to Stone Mountain or Atlanta or Dallas. Is there even a river in Atlanta ?. At least Dallas has a river (or a ditch when its not raining) that they pretend is a mighty waterway by building exorbitant bridges across so they can take misleading photo's of Dallas, and fantasize about being close to open water.

I do agree with you there. Dallas does have more nicer suburbs. But I still like the city of Houston better. Both are good cities. But homers from each other locales will try to act like the other place is a cesspool.

What the thread asks:
Which has the better overall reputation OUTSIDE of Texas?
What People See:
Hey people from Dallas and Houston which city is better? Now fight over it!
Think again...

Any place in Texas is a good place to live in Texas, but according to a new crunching of data, Houston's suburbs are among the best.
The researchers at NerdWallet looked at cities across the state, comparing homeownership rates, quality of schools, crime rates and transportation issues, and ranked five of Houston's suburbs in its Top 10 Best Places to Live in Texas list.
Low crime, great school districts and plenty of jobs helped The Woodlands, Sugar Land, Pearland, League City and Missouri City all make the Top 10.

wow, im not sure if you're purposely trying to be ignorant, or not realizing it.. but CNN Money Magazine ranks best cities between 50,000-300,000 people. you do realize DFW has ELEVEN cities between 100,000-300,000 people (couldn't find a list starting at 50,000). Houston has ONE between 100,000-300,000.

the city of Dallas is about half the size of Houston, yet the DFW metro is slightly larger than Greater Houston, because DFW has a ton of suburban cities not included by Dallas. many of Houstons suburban areas are inside the city of Houston, and thus don't qualify for CNN Money Magazines best places to live in.

so the 85,000 people in the city of Carmel make up the whole state of Indiana?what about the other 6.5 million people? why would they care about Carmels ranking or Money Magazines list of best places to live, and thus know about DFW suburbs?

funny how this link popped up in my searches of each cities suburban populations..

If Houston didn't exist I doubt Dallas would exist either. The DFW economy is much more dependent on Houston than vice versa. And if Houston and DFW didn't exist who would be buying land in New Mexico ?
