Dallas for me by a wide margin. People overall just seem to have better things to say about it. To be fair, Houston seems to get more hate for its weather than Dallas but IMO Dallas summers are just as awful as Houston summers. At least Houston has beaches relatively close by.

If you want opinions in a nutshell from an outsider.

Dallas = sophticstion
Houston = southern

But don't get me wrong, Houston has just as much polish as Dallas. Dallas' is just more in your face. Dallas has zero southern charm to it, as to where Houston has it in spades. It's just big city southern, and there is nothing wrong with that.
People in Dallas to me dress southern but they are fake, nice big house, nice big costly car, look at me I have lot of money, look at me I'm dress like I'm gone to the school prom or dinner with the CEO of Microsoft well they are at a fast food place, walmart or shopping plaza!! None of this is southern culture at all.

Dallas and Fort Worth area will give you more of the look on how people from Texas dress like.

More stronger southern accents in the Dallas and Fort Worth area than Houston. In Houston 90% people do not have accent and in suburbs it is even more so.

If you are into the southern culture stay out of Dallas.

Lived in both. This is off base.

Statistics dictate Greater Houston, not DFW has a higher in state birth rate.

You may have more of a point if you're just talking about Fort Worth but not Dallas at all. I can count the number of friends I had from Dallas on one hand when I lived there. People in Dallas were devoid of accents as they are in Houston.

Houston is, by far, the more Southern city.

I think this debate trying to caste one Texas city as more southern than the other is laughable. I assume the intent is to stigmatize the city that is more southern with all the historical baggage that being southern entails or to get the other off the southern hook. Whether Houston is more southern, or even southern at all, is irrelevant as to which is the more Texan city. Houston is by history and pedigree the more quintessential Texan city. If it turns out that Houston is more southern all that does is pull the rest of Texas further or closer into the "southern" classification . We are still one state at this time and these groupings tend to include whole states, so if Houston is southern so is Dallas. Its like being a little pregnant you either are or you are not.

I don't think it's a given that Houston is the more Texan city. In fact I think it's quite debatable. Dallas can pretty much spar with Houston and be evenly matched in almost every category. Only the most ignorant of people would really think annexing an area half the size of Rhode Island will automatically make a city great or more than it actually is. But I will concede that it probably does make Houston a little more Texan as that's a very Texas thing to do.

Why are "southern" and "sophistication" two separate things? One isn't exclusive of the other.

Dallas Cowboys and the show "Dallas" have both give the city a higher profile than Houston.

So your peeved about Houstons annexation policies of the past ? Houston covers about 600 square miles with a population of 2.1 million which means its more than twice as densely populated as Kansas City with a pop of 460k and 319 square miles, do the math, so KC looks to be the more land hungry city.

BTW, Houston's pedigree is based on historical fact not some concoction of pulp fiction. So Dallas can spar all it wants because there is no real contest....

Who said anything about KC? Did you just bring it up because I live here? I'm not from here and definitely not a KC booster. Lol KC is absolutely sprawling as well. Far be it from me to defend it. And you may be right, Houston may be the more Texas city. Guess it depends on how you define Texan. But I think Dallas is the better city and metro and looks like most agree with me.

Too bad you can't live in a city that you have some respect for. As far as sprawl goes DFW matches Greater Houston's sprawl tit for tat

In the end You can think whatever you wish, but the results of internet polls ( especially anonymous ones) are about as valid as the opinions of people who place any credence on their results. ......
