I'd say Dallas. Houston seems to carry a reputation of being dirty and crime-ridden, Dallas doesn't seem to have that problem.

Locally it might, but on a national level, he's probably right. Dallas and Houston proper have similar crime rates. But on a metro area level, Houston's crime rate is far higher.

And of course these conditions are a direct result of Houston having no zoning codes ?

Exactly right...people love to say that certain cities are "dangerous", but they are normally only dangerous in the bad areas. The safer areas are pretty much the same from city to city.

From my understanding, Asians aren't around the metro area like that. They are mostly in North Dallas and the northern Suburbs. If you didn't go to Richardson, Plano, North Dallas, and perhaps the Mid cities, chances are that you aren't going to run into many. There's over 400,000 Asians in DFW. Nearly 500,000 in Houston and their pretty much scattered around the metro down there.

Right. Everyone knows that cities with zoning are not dirty or crime-ridden. They simply zone that stuff out. Yeah, that's it.

So what? You could say the safe neighborhoods in Detroit (and there are safe neighborhoods there) are just as safe as the safe neighborhoods elsewhere in Michigan. Doesn't change the fact that it's still Detroit.

They are all the same in that crime is fairly contained in certain areas...Detroit may have a few more of those areas than some other cities, but much of Detroit is relatively safe and crime-free. I don't see Houston as much different than Dallas where crime is concerned. They are both about like any other city - mostly safe outside of a few avoidable areas.

All this hatin' on Detroit.
