Hanover, New Hampshire. New England is already criminally underrated. I have explored Concord and like the small towns there.
Huntsville, AL or Columbia, SC?
Columbia. I really like Huntsville and think it will be on the rise in the 2020's. But I really like what Columbia is now. One of the most underrated small metros. Lots to do for its size, good economy, and very affordable. Love its access to Charlotte, Greenville, and Charleston.

Boise, ID or Reno, NV?
Definitely Boise. Both areas are on the rise, but I prefer Boise culture and scenery.
Las Cruces. I like NM. My wife and I are getting near retirement and it's one of the better retirement areas in the nation.
Roanoke, VA or Peoria, IL?
Roanoke for sure. The people were nice and it has a strong sense of community. The surprise architectural gems as well as outdoor activities make it easy for me to visit again. It reminds me of a less expensive Asheville.

Eugene, OR or Anderson, SC?
Anderson. It's in the Greenville/Spartanburg area, which I love. Nice little town and I have a friend there. Don't want to be anywhere in the PNW.
Ft. Worth, TX or Ft. Lauderdale, FL?
