Except that Maryland isn't "my" state--I've only lived here for two months and I couldn't care less whether you call it Southern or not, so the point is not germane to the OP, which was chiefly regarding similarities in built form between TO and NE cities or Midwestern cities.
Mid-West also implies cities like Cleveland, Detroit, St. Louis, Milwaukee, Cincinnati, Columbus, etc. All cities that bear no resemblance to Toronto at all on any sort of tangible way.
Toronto's walkability also sets it apart from just about any midwestern city, all the major neighbourhoods in the old city blend right into one another allowing the pedestrian to experience uninterrupted urbanity stretching for miles and miles.

Yeah, Chicago is very different from Toronto in that regard.
With its narrow streets, ramshackle graffiti covered buildings and psychedelic rowhouses, the last place that comes to mind is a typical midwestern neighbourhood.
I'll accept your challenge...Brady St. in Milwaukee. This probably isn't what you "typify" with the Midwest, but that's where it is.

I can't think of a city in the US that reminds me of Toronto. I guess NYC but only because it is Canada's dominant city in population, media, culture, and finance as is NYC.
I choose Eastern cities on the poll but only because there was no "none of the above" option. In no way does it remind me of ANY Mid-western city including Chicago.
Really? The Niagara Falls outlets are so much better.
I've never been to the Falls outlets so I can't say, but PA offers more sales tax free shopping than New York state does so that might be why.
