California over Texas - While Texas would certainly feel more like the places I've lived since early childhood and more like home, California is just too spectacular to lose this vote.

New York over Florida - I'm really struggling with this vote, because I feel like NYC carries a lot of weight for the state. I know that's not really true, as I have seen the beautiful countryside and mountains of Upstate New York. I would much prefer the Florida climate, and of course there are many beautiful beaches. It seems kind of homogenous, though, in terms of scenery.

California over Texas — more geographical and cultural diversity in California, more interesting cities.

New York over Florida — nothing compares to NYC. As far as natural features go, they are tough to compare because they are very different, but I love the Finger Lakes, and the Hudson Valley is underrated.

Was born in California, but my family is from Texas... This is a tough one.
For cities I rank them personally as follows: 1) San Antonio 2) Houston 3) Santa Barbara 4) San Diego 5) Austin/ Santa Rosa area - edge to Austin 6) Los Angeles Area/ Dallas Area- edge to LA 7) Bay Area 8) Sac 9) El Paso 10) Waco... I'm gonna stop before I keep going on those, hah.
Geography wise I prefer California. Both states are really diverse and have vibrant economies.
Both these states deserve to be top 2 (Even if I was pulling for my home states of AZ and TN).
It pains me but I'm going to give it to
California.
I'd honestly give it to NC or Hawaii above these, as well as my homestates above! But giving the edge to California here. I'd rather live in TX than CA, but damn, this was a hard one!

FL vs. NY. Really love both of these states. Especially upstate NY and Northern FL. Gonna give the edge to NY because NYC is just insane.

Thanks for making the post, was enjoyable and fun to see how everything went down! I'm not entirely surprised but sad to see AZ and TN knocked out so early as well as NC.

California vs Texas This one was a harder decision since I am not very familiar with either state in this pair so I am going on what I know. I chose California for its access to mountains, ocean and the variety of cities in the state.

New York vs Florida New York for having a wider variety of geography, and some of the most beautiful landscapes. NY has the Adirondacks, Finger Lakes, Catskills and two of the Great Lakes. It also has overall better weather (4 seasons) and some of my favorite cities like Buffalo, Oswego and Syracuse.
