Maybe I haven't seen them yet but that was my feeling in travels there.

I find the unique environment Phoenix is situated in to be amazing myself. I'm a desert rat though and the Sonoran is absolutely intriguing and I personally find the variation stunning. I also enjoy having mountain preserves all around the Phoenix valley, as opposed to just on the east side like you find in Denver.
What is it about Scottsdale and Tempe that isn't available around Denver?

So much for my vote for Phoenix being the most humble major city, lol.

Anyhow my choice here is for Denver (and Boulder). Nothing against Phoenix but there's a lot to see and do in Colorado and nearby in the Front Range. Denver also happens to be one of my favorite cities in the US.

What area surrounding Denver is comparable to Old Town Scottsdale? The shopping, nightlife, dining, arts etc? Cherry Creek reminds me of Biltmore but I don't see a Scottsdale like area there.

What area is like Tempe? A former college focused town that's now grown to look more like a medium sized city on it's own. Boulder, to me, feels like it's still very much a college town.

I was asking. I don't know about these areas.

There's downtown or Olde Town Arvada, doesn't seem quite as big as Scottsdale though. Englewood to a lesser extent.

Tempe's most comparable city would probably be Aurora or Centennial, but without an urban core.

I find it hard to believe Tempe looks like its own city. It looks like an extention of an urban core. Its only 6 miles from downtown Phoenix.

Are there any suburbs similar to Boulder and Golden in the Phoenix metro area?
Small dense college towns next to mountains?

Not a lot of cities have suburbs like Scottsdale.

Denver doesn't have a suburb like Scottsdale. But with that being said, it doesn't really need one since the city is much more centralized than Phoenix is.

Cherry Creek is like Denver's 2nd Downtown. It's dense, walkable and mixed use with a focus on shopping/dining. Biltmore strikes me as a mall with a few midrise towers surrounding it. No real walkable district like Cherry Creek North. Comparable but not really the same thing.

Boulder technically is a college town. However it has the 2nd liveliest Downtown in the area and there's a decent amount of things to do. What do you think sets Tempe apart?

Why do you find it hard to believe? These are my personal photos of Tempe from Hayden Butte and South Mountain. Not sure if it will get deleted or not. Tempe is a dense college town, South Mountain and McDowells are close but not directly next to it.

The McDowells are in North Scottsdale, near the Troon resort. Papago Buttes are the mountains next to Tempe
