Your opinion and facts are two different things. Atlanta is comfortably ahead of the Twin Cities in most metrics the OP listed except urbanity. With Charlotte added it becomes a bit closer though.
That's my point. It's not as ahead as it should be. Add Charlotte and it's comfortably ahead of ATL.

Well if you combined the metro areas of Charlotte and MSP, it technically would be larger than metro Atlanta. It would make sense for the two to be ahead of Atlanta in that scenario. Even then the gap isn’t very large.

True but simply adding 2 metros together isn't the same as having one larger metro. For example, Boston has a million less people than ATL but I wouldn't say that Mpls+Charlotte can compete with Boston by itself.

Not really because you're still lacking infrastructure, mass transit, larger international airport and flights, diversity, and educational opportunities that Atlanta already has. Atlanta's population and economy are not sitting stagnant.
Atlanta. Better airport, higher GDP, more education options, more diverse economies than the combined Charlotte + Minneapolis.
Atlanta has some cachet and is an influencer on a national level, Charlotte + Minneapolis not so much.
Mpls+Charlotte has a higher GDP than ATL. Mpls has the same amount of fortune 500 companies as ATL with a much smaller population. With Charlotte added I'm not sure that ATL's economy is more diverse.

Atlanta's GDP is around 400 Billion and Minneapolis/Charlotte is 430 Billion so the latter is slightly higher. What Atlanta has that Charlotte/Minneapolis lacks is a thriving film/entertainment industry, Logistics (UPS + Delta), Vehicle/Battery (Mercedes Benz NA HQ, Porsche NA HQ, KIA factory, and a Rivian EV plant is on its way with SK also opening huge battery factories). Both are high in the tech, financial, health, and food sectors with Charlotte excelling in banking.

Minneapolis St. Paul and Charlotte do not have the same educational opportunities and amount of diversity. There are zero HBCUs in Minneapolis with no plans for any. Atlanta's economy is the most diverse.
