From State and Metropolitan Data Book Florida> 58,664 total...54,153 land alone.....Pennsylvania> 45,308 total...44,888 land alone. ( Why does the land area differ in each source???) For total land area Florida is 22.77% LARGER in land mass...lets face it the numbers are different per source. BUT I did NOT misquote WIKI, but I think WIKI is WRONG! make that:State and Metropolitan Area Data Book. This figure is about midway between my initial figure(which is probably wrong) and your latest figure , which is probably too low..... www.stateandmetropolitanareadatabook.gov.....

That's because most people who have "nothing but positives to say about Pennsylvania" would rather find a redheaded stepchild to give away before they'd ever say nothing but positives about Florida. When pigs fly and when hell freezes over.

I see your 13%...and my 31% are almost exactly equidistant from the figure from the State and Metropolitan Area Data Book.......which shows 22.77%.....actually I appear to have been a little bit closer. LOL...PEACE. I am using the total square area including water...since thousands of small creeks in Pa. probably are not actually measured but estimated, like all the different square mileage numbers...LOL... And many Floridians live in boats on the water in Sarasota at least.

A little less difference than I originally thought, works out to about 13% smaller.
HEY ...when I do mathematics...with your own figures....total area for both states........I get 21.37%?????????????? It appears you made a math error....your number is way off......What was your source for your land area figures????

But you have to remember that Realtors on here like to keep things like that a secret. Florida Realtors are starving right now, why do you think they are on city data instead of out there showing properties. The gig is up for Florida and they cant accept it. All I can say to them is that they better get used to it and their empty condo towers.

And let's not forget this gem (at around minute 5):

Hulu - Saturday Night Live: VP Debate Open: Palin / Biden

Funny overall, but the Scranton part does make me chuckle. I once heard Pittsburgh described as a giant Scranton and couldn't agree more...

I might also note that, according to this site - Mapping the Quality of Life in the US | NumbersUSA - For Lower Immigration Levels - Pennsylvania ranks 46 out of 50 in terms of population growth between 1980 and 2008. Out of the state's 67 counties, only 10 show high population growth, while more than two dozen of the state's counties are actually losing population.

In contrast, only 5 out of Florida's 67 counties showed less than "high growth" during that same period. Not a single county in the entire state lost population. In those 28 years, Florida ranked 3 out of 50 in terms of growth.

When I was living in Pittsburgh, I used to hear young elitist "urban snob" types all the time talk about how "livable" that city and state was, and how they would rather leave the country than live in a "soul-less" Sun Belt boomtown (to those types, I learned that old buildings, decaying infrastructure, exorbitant taxation, narrow car-unfriendly streets, and freezing weather equals "livable".) But as I've said time and time again, most people don't seem to agree with them. It has nothing to do with cost, because Pennsylvania is one of the cheapest states in the Northeast. People leave Pennsylvania for greener pastures, as I did, because they seek a better quality of life and better economic opportunities.
