I know you being sarcastic at the same time you talking down to Dallas black population. Racism is everywhere and Dallas racism is mild compared to other parts of the country. We have had these converstation in the past.
I'm not really knocking one specific group. Slaves come in all sorts of races and cultures. Are there worse places for black people to live than Dallas? Sure there are. You couldn't pay me to live in Detroit or Milwaukee. I'm just keeping people informed of my experiences when I was living there. People can take it or leave it. No skin off of my back.
My choice of words may be ugly, but I want people to wake up. We're almost all mentally enslaved one way or another. Some are concious, some are not. It's all a part of a plan to keep people compliant and uninformed. People laugh and mock me and call me paranoid, but I don't care.
Im not so sure. My family is from the middle east. In the time we live in now, racism is alot more rampant against them than African American due to the "war on terror". They just realize that there are stupid people everywhere and the times they have had problems, they just bounce back. No one is going to tell us how to live or how to act. After 9/11, my dad (who shares your fervent hatred of Dallas) had a brick thrown through his window with a racial slur written on it (in Sugar Land, TX). They called the police, filed a report, and (while they never caught the guy/girl), all is well and good now. My dad still loves his home and Sugar Land. We bounce back. We are strong people!
Thats why Im not sure to what degree I buy the "mind-melding" argument (that is to say that people subconsciously tell a certain group how to think or where to live). No one told us where we had to go and when people showed racism toward my family, we fought back by living well. Have they encountered racism over the years? Sure. But we have thick skin and have stood our ground.
Seriously, were internet forums made just for some one to knock one particular city all the time?
Look, I don't defend Dallas alot but it's not that damn bad. Just because ya have a bad expericence there doesn't mean everyone else has that same experience. And just because you don't like the city doesn't mean you should tell the world not to move there. And that goes for anybody who does that here. It just gets annoying.....
Hell, I'd rather live in Dallas than MOST other cities in this country (...never really thought I'd say that).
So we went from sarcastic humor to how racist Dallas is. The conversations change quite a bit. In the past I've heard many times about how Boston is a real racist city. The white people don't like the black people. The Irish and Italians don't like each other, etc. I've heard about how racist Chicago is. The white cops in Chicago don't like the black people in Chicago. These racist arguments can be applied to any city in America. They don't mean anything. People don't like different places for different reasons. There is something good and something bad about every place. So I don't give any creedence to these arguments about a particular place being really bad or racist. If I think a place is pretty cool then I choose to like it no matter what anybody says.
Thats true, what do you see in Houston? I see in Houston, people are either behind or dont care t-shirt and jeans or alternative trendy. funky, off beat. In Dallas its was plain, but expensive plain, like Ann Taylor, Polo Ralph Lauren, JCrew, Hollister. Not funky off beat as much like Houston.Also in Houston you see hick attire, wrangler jeans and cowboy boots and hats too.
I don't really notice "hick" attire here in Houston in terms of general cowboy. The Tejanos/Rancheros wear that stuff and is a bit more noticeable but that Latino country fashion is noticeable in LA and San Diego too. Many Estrella TV shows taped in LA reflect that culture and fashion, if that's what one calls it.
lol,Yeah thats right. I think Atlanta has picked up its fashion sense since the 90's and DC is east coast, so they abit more ahead. LA is the queen of styles and about ten years ahead, than Houston or Texas. Dallas is I think is standard. Make up and hair. Its trendy and up to date. Houston is more causal and less pretentious.
While we can agree that LA is ground zero for trends and such, I don't buy into that "10 years ahead" stuff. People go and move back and forth from these areas...Houston has niche shops almost comparable to what I've seen in LA.
Modern people in Houston don't dress all that differently than they do in LA or Dallas. In fact, all three cities tend to be casual. People just try to dismiss Houston that way, being "behind" or "hickish." Forget the fact that people from all over the world bring their current flavors to Houston.
And seriously, when we look at factual items, we have Houstonian Chloe Dao, whose fashion sense has put Houston on the national map on Project Runaway and Lucky Magazine. Indeed, her boutiques such as Lot 8 germinate her award-winning creations HERE IN HOUSTON.
If Houston is so unfashionable or "behind" then why does one of the hottest designers who won a fashion grand prize maintain a few boutiques and base her operations in H-town?
San Francisco...now that's a REAL dress up city at night from what I've observed.
London, in terms of fashion and true dressing up, blows all of America away.

Or overall aesthetics of the city. Some people never seem to grasp, or fully understand Houston's lack of zoning laws. Its funny though, the suburbs aren't that way. Some of them are zoned just as strict, if not stricter than Dallas' most elite burbs.
Yeah I agree. A lot of people seem to not be able to wrap their mind around the no zoning thing. I used to work with a guy that complained that Houston doesn't have zoning. He used to live in Dallas and he said Dallas has zoning. Houston not having zoning is kind of funny though. When you drive south on 45 (the Gulf Freeway) you see these billboards advertising some church and then right next to the billboard is a strip club. I just think that's funny. I guess it really makes sense. You can go to a strip club and then after the club closes you can walk across the street to ask for forgiveness.
I just care for either Houston or Dallas at this moment .For instance , Dallas might be the best city in Texas , but it's still all backwards and too conservative for an east coast man.Even Atlanta has more to their city :it's small , but it's also just like combining that lame Houston , San Antonio , Austin , and Dallas together. Remember the 1996 olympics! Did Texas get them ? No. Does any lame Texas city have good , dependable public transportation service ? Noooo. That's why I'll never move back to that ole' sorry , boring , and depressing state again. Texas shuts down to early for this easterner and yall can blame your backwater country bumkin republicans for keeping that place down. Yall don't have no casinos or no kinf of entertainment .One thing I can say about Dallas is that it has an expanding light rail system while Houston remains in the bleak post-1970s conservative hillbilly honky tonky past , plus Houston is too dog gone country , big , sorry , dirty , nasty , raggedy , and it relies too much on the lifeblood of the automobile. I'm not just speaking for Houston , but I'm also speaking for the rest of Texas as well. That's the reason why I prefer a much more progressive place over Texas.

None of the cities in Texas were canidate cities for the 96 Olympics. So it should surprise anyone if they werent awarded the spot if they didnt try for it.
