Atlanta's skyline should be larger for a metro of 5M+ IMO.

I've said it once and I'll say it again. NYC is the biggest one. Ok, NYC is over 8 million. But whe'll use metro or CSA as the best measure. If people can say Chicago then why on earth does NYC keep getting overlooked. NYC has twice as many people give or take a million or two in their CSA than Chicago. Chicago has slightly over 1100 highrises at half the size. NYC has almost six times as many highrises with twice the pop. How come NYC gets no props. Atlanta has about 300-350 highrises with a metro pop of about five million. A fourth of NYC's. Yet, NYC has over 6000 highrises. ATlanta times four would be in the 12-1300 range. See the difference. Why does NYC get no love or is always overlooked? Take Los Angeles a little over five hundred highrises which is a twelfth of NYC. Is NYC twelve times larger than metro LA. Hell no. I vote NYC. For a city it's size (albeit very large) it's skyline (in US standards) is more reflective of Canadian cities skylines. Definately an aboration in our country.

Let's see a city with 8 Million Plus people within the city proper and 20 Million people in it's Metro , no " it doesn't Boggle The Mind " NYC doesn't have any ( Mountains and Valleys ) running through it like LA does blocking it from erecting 6,000 skyscrapers , a vertical city is something that LA will never become because of it's varied Topography and desire to see it's 10,000 foot Mountain Back Drop.

How do mountains and valleys prevent construction of skyscrapers? Oh and NYC area definately has valleys.

Atlanta's skyline is quite sufficient for its size; it's simply a little more spread out than some others. I'm guessing you just prefer a more centralized/clustered skyline.

Just do a comparison of "skyscrapers" (as defined by Emporis, for example) per metro population. I'll take a seriously high-level stab at what that could look like:

Metro - (# of skyscrapers in metro / metro population)
Atlanta - 400/5,000,000
Miami - 2,000/5,000,000
NYC - 8,000/20,000,000
Phoenix - 150/4,500,000
Seattle - 400/3,500,000

Etc. etc. etc.

Etc. etc. etc.
Pretty hard to take this seriously without any true stats to back this up. Even so, this is a flawed methodology since not all skyscrapers in the metro area will actually contribute to the central skyline.
