$4.1M To Be Awarded For Charlotte-To-Atlanta High-Speed Rail - Sponsors News Story - WSOC Charlotte

Here is a nice article describing high speed rail between Charlotte and Atlanta. I figured it would be good to post it here considering the debate about which area has the possibility of becoming cohesive first.

I actually think the Greenville-Spartanburg area will be the biggest beneficiary of this line and might actually cause the area to eventually experience growth rates like Charlotte and Atlanta.

I think this as well and I hope Upstate makes the most of this. I wonder what Clemson University will say of this. I know they did some studies in the past about this megaregion, I wonder what they will say now.

I heard this as well. If I'm correct, is it just from San Antonio to Austin? Perhaps a Texas poster can clear this up.

Maybe it will be an impetus to establish light rail or something, but I'm not holding my breath.

Thanks for that.

On another note, I read the article I posted and the one in the Atlanta Journal and Constitution, the details don't seem to clear. Perhaps later on in the week there will be more info.

In regards to the OP. I hope it isn't Texas. Don't get me wrong I am not saying that to put down my home state, but I don't want it to be ruined and turned into some horrible urban megacity like the they have up in the North East from Washington to Boston. I love Texas and rural Texas as much if not more than our wonderful cities, and would hate to see that ruined. It pains me ever time I drive from Austin to SA now days, and I have gotten to not driving I-35 at all when going to SA anymore but going through the hill country through Johnson City to SA. Going north from Austin makes me even sadder in all of the insane growth we have had north of Austin out towards Round Rock and on further up north.

So to me Atlanta and the rest of the south can have their sprawl I hope it stops here in Texas. I love our cities, but it is getting quite ridiculous.

This is true but the line you are probably thinking about that has been in the news isn't a HSR. It is just a normal commuter rail. http://www.lonestarrail.com/

Edit: I am sorry I do not know how to give you a web link on this website. Every time I type it in when I click the "Save" button it changes the web address I typed in and makes it into something I can't understand and you can not click on it. I will try one more time .... http://www.lonestarrail.com/
