Mike, you should be out by the pool, not writing long posts on the computer.

I don't hang by the pool, but I do enjoy those resort-style drinks with the little umbrellas ...

I blog a lot sometimes to give back .... better to give than receive .... to counter fake news .... so much to know .... so little time .... so much history

Every single American pays for things we all don't "get to use" or have any use for. We're in this together.

Pretty ironic that the interstate highway system was developed & constructed using tax dollars to benefit all Americans and serve the defense needs of the nation. Now nobody wants to pay higher taxes yet they somehow expect these roads to just "materialize" and serve everybody. None of us want toll roads, we just want to be able to use the road that our taxes pay for. Pretty simple that if you want better roads, you need higher taxes, period. The political mantra against higher taxes is self defeating and as infrastructure crumbles, and people complain about sitting in large volumes of traffic, the screaming gets louder & louder to "lower taxes" for everyone. Well you can't have it both ways. If you're unwilling to pay for new roads, then you have no right to scream about how bad the existing roads are. It's a binary choice!

There's a difference between doesn't get to use and is not allowed to use. Essentially, everyone pays once in the building, and then some people will pay a second time to use. That doesn't make sense.

And I would remind people of the NYS Thruway, which was supposed to be toll in order to build it, but that once it was paid for... Well, it was built beginning in the early 1950s, and now more than half-a-century later is still tolled. Another government lie/misrepresentation.

Yeah, whatever. I don't stand corrected. Maybe some people will not get to use that something the second time around, but so what? Again ... we all pay our part, whether we use everything we pay for or not.

US36 from Boulder to Denver was originally know as the Boulder-Denver Turnpike because it was a toll road that used tolls for construction. Tolls were applied from 1952 until 1967. Once the bonds were paid off, the tolls were removed and it was added to regular highway maintenance until the new HOV toll lanes were added in 2012. High occupancy vehicles may use the toll lanes for free while single user vehicles pay the toll.

Percentage wise, roads are getting less and less money. We have to do something to construct and keep them up.

Will the toll lane be physically separated from the other lanes? Or like a commute lane with just signs and lines on the road?

From what I've read, right now the space will be borrowed from existing space in the shoulder, so I don't think it will be initially.
