Mandatory Water Restrictions Implemented in Ridgway, alongside Stage 1 Fire Restrictions

Ridgway, CO - Mayor John Clark has promulgated mandatory water restrictions within the Town of Ridgway, effective immediately. The restrictions shall remain in effect until modified or revoked by further order of the Town Council.


• No irrigating between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., or when windy, in order to minimize evaporation, and anytime on Mondays.
• Properties located on the SOUTH side of Hwy 62 & Hunter Parkway - irrigate only on Tuesdays and Saturdays.
• Properties located on the NORTH side of Hwy 62 & Hunter Parkway - irrigate only on Wednesdays and Sundays.
• Town Parks irrigation limited to the minimum needed to keep grass alive.
Earlier today, the Town Manager formally promulgated emergency restrictions on burning and fires within the Town and the restrictions shall remain in effect until modified or revoked by further order of the Town Council. The following activities are currently prohibited in the Town of Ridgway:
• Building, maintaining, attending or using a campfire except in designated and signed campgrounds or developed recreation sites with provided fire grates;
• Open burning of any kind including burning of trash or debris, burning of ditches, open charcoal or wood fires
• Fireworks or the use of explosives;
• Smoking on public property, except in an enclosed vehicle or building;
• Disposal of any cigarette anywhere outdoors;
• Operating any chainsaw, except with a fire extinguisher and shovel kept within immediate reach;
• Welding or use of torch with open flame, unless inside an enclosed structure and as an allowable use in the zoning district;
• Other activities determined to be of high risk in creating a wildfire and potential for loss of life or significant damage to personal property.

#BrushCreekFire located near Brush Mountain on Douglas Pass is estimated at 10 acres and putting up lots of smoke but not making any active runs at this time. Two engine crews and three modules are working to contain the fire. Estimated containment is tomorrow (6/22).

Oil Springs Fire 6/21/2021 @ 2:00 am

Location: 20 miles South of Rangely
Size: 5000 acres
Percent Contained: 0 %
Cause: Lightning
Fuel Type: Juniper and pinyon
Current Situation: The fire had significant growth June 20, having multiple spot fires and crossing Highway 139. Firefighters are still witnessing active fire behavior due to dry conditions, receptive fuels and wind. Multiple agencies have been called in to assist with structure protection through the night as winds are expected to continue with gusts up to 40 MPH.
Smoke is visible from Highway 139, Highway 64, Rangely, Meeker, and all surrounding areas.
Road Closures: Highway 139, County Road 23 and County Road 113 intersection, County Road 122 at mile marker 10.
Evacuations: County Road 116, County Road 27, County Road 28, County Road 120, County Road 26A, County Road 103, and County Road 128.

The Sylvan Fire 12 miles south of Eagle, Colo. 180 acres

The fire is burning in timber on the White River National Forest about half a mile from Sylvan Lake State Park. Firefighters reported extreme fire behavior as strong winds pushed the fire to the south and southeast.

The fire was reported about 3:15 p.m. Sunday. The cause is currently unknown and under investigation.

Campers and others recreating in Sylvan Lake State Park and much of the surrounding lands have been evacuated. Much of the area in the vicinity of the fire has been closed, including Sylvan Lake State Park. Firefighters have taken steps to protect structures at the state park. Other infrastructure at risk includes a major powerline in the burn area.

- NW of Lynx Pass, near Muddy Creek & The Slide
- Roughly 100+ acres
- Type III Incident Command Team has been ordered along with numerous other resources

The Trail Canyon Fire is burning on Ute Mountain Ute Tribal lands in Montezuma County, CO. Pushed by strong winds, it grew to approximately 840 acres on the afternoon of June 19th. It was started by lightning and is approximately 10 miles NW of Red Mesa, Colorado. Approximately 65 firefighters have been assigned to the fire and they are being assisted by helicopters and fixed-wing air tankers, with additional resources expected today.

We had a welcome cool down come through the western slope yesterday and today. In fact, this evening Montrose came in with a half inch of rain according to KKCO-11. temps will be in the 80's for the next few days. In regards to ongoing fires?


Muddy Slide fire--southern Routt country--4300 acres burned.

Oil springs fire--20 miles south of Rangely-- 12800 acres burned. Colorado 139 north of Loma going to Rangely is still closed.
Sylvan Fire-near sylvan Lake State Park--3800 acres burned.
West Fire--about 75 miles northwest of Craig--3500 acres burned.
Wild Cow Fire--South of Baxter Pass--550 acres burned

Latest fire in Routt County putting out a lot of smoke. Morgan Creek fire: https://www.steamboatpilot.com/news/...ear-300-acres/
Combined with the fires in Utah, Idaho and Oregon the air quality is pretty bad: https://data.coloradoan.com/fires/
I wouldn't travel to Steamboat at this time. They closed the Yampa river a few days ago to tubing and fishing. Seedhouse Road is closed, the main access point to the Mt. Zirkel Wilderness. No camping, day use, recreation of any kind, you cannot access the area because of the fire inside the wilderness. You cannot access trails such as Gilpin Lake/Gold Lake/Mica Trail.

I-70 in both directions: Safety closure
Between Exit 140: US 6; Gypsum (Gypsum) and Exit 147: Eagle (Eagle). Closed from mile 140-143 due to wild fire.
