I just got back from downtown. The Nest appears to be putting in entrances off of both Main and Hampton on the ground floor of the Marriott. The Hub is putting in more new windows, continuing a pattern in which some vertical texture is being added to the building, nothing strong, but enough to add some life. Also, they appear to be in a decision-making phase for which shade of a very light green or cream color to use in painting the light part of the contrasting sections the renderings have shown. About a dozen of the panels of the exterior have been painted in an assortment of colors ranging from creamy white to what I call Martha Stewart green.

I don't think 40 stories would look good in Cola. I would rather see a number of 18 -20 story buildings that have a larger impact on the street. The tallest SC building is in Cola for what it's worth, I just don't see why that matters when less than 10 miles from the SC state line is an 875' tower.
Actually, the Capital Center is the tallest office building in SC, but second tallest building overall to the Prysmian Copper Wire Tower (industrial building) in Abbeville.

Technically it is taller but if you were to see it in person you would see that is anything but a typical office tower or skyscraper. I consider it an anomaly.
Last night in his State of the City address, Mayor Benjamin pledged $1 billion worth of high-rise development over the next four years. While not mentioning anything specific, the words "30-story" were in his rhetoric when explaining how going vertical is more cost-efficient and valuable.
