Man, that dude talks FAST. Nice case. My son's case from 2008 lights up. His is by cooler master. My last build was the Maximum PC dream machine using the HP blackbird custom for MPC case. It's way too big and chunky. Think they only made 25 cases. I bought 3, one is brand new in the box, never opened.

Default Sounds like some good decisions on your parts combo.

Sounds like some good decisions on your parts combo's in doing your builds. Your HP Blackbird case that's still in the box should be a very good investment on your part. Your builds were a lot more expensive than the entry lever gamer video I presented that cost under $500 earlier in the thread.

It was also one of my initial questions but I had enough fresh pricing info at hand that I could provide a relatively realistic quote of a basic, moderate and gaming rig price so the prospective client would have an idea beforehand. Most people were clueless, at least 20 years ago so asking them how much they would like to spend, would typically yield an answer similar to "As little as possible" or "Not too much!"....not very specific or helpful.

Nowadays, it might make sense to ask the customer if there was a specific OEM make/model they liked and then quote them a custom build PC using same specs but preferably better components. OEMs, naturally, use either proprietary and/or cheap components to cut corners.

A lot of the old sites are gone, Newegg where I bought most of my stuff from is a joke. Too bad Maximum PC wiped out their forum. Lots of smart people there.
Sad but true. There were a bunch of really good ones 10+ years ago but most died away in the last decade.
I was a moderator on one of those site called IANAG (I Am Not A Geek), doubt anyone even knows or remembers.

MajorGeekks.com is still around but not sure who are the regulars nowadays. I haven't checked out their forum for years. They had a ton of really knowledgeable regulars plus the mods.

Two things became very noticeable of most any technical forum:
- The ego fights between techies
- The bitterness that accumulates after spending your hours/days/months and not getting as much as a "Thank You!" but instead getting some noob getting into a peeing contest like you have to prove/validate your creds to them simply because you wanted to share your $0.02's worth.

Oh yeah, I got burned out once or twice but like a dumb dumb, keep coming back.
Waddaya gonna do?

Because of that, I no longer follow what's the best hardware (e.g., fastest graphics card vs. price, frame rates, the gaming mice with best reaction time and monitors with refresh rates or something like that, etc.) and just look for the ones that can run adventure, RPG, and strategy games at mid-level graphics. At best, I just want SSD and lots of RAM so that the machine won't boot and run slowly when I run applications.

Hey, you sounded familiar, now I know why!

RAM is a double-edged sword! Neither good to have too little or too much of it!
Even for most any gaming 16 GB is actually more than enough.
From what I have seen Windows 10/11 utilizes 3 to 4 GBs for everyday stuff and up to 12 GB for gaming.

I built my own in 2011. Still using it, although I have upgraded a little.
I bought my own Win 7 64 bit software.

I'm 77 now. Just figured it out as I went. I remember I started by buying the case! I said, "OK, this is what it is going to look like."

I opened up the case a few months ago and blew the dust off everything. As computers go, it really isn't much; just sort of basic. I'm not a gamer, so I use it for record keeping, financial transactions, communication, and so forth.

There's no downside of having too much RAM from a performance perspective. You may have wasted money but that's about it.

No, there is a bit more to it than just wasting money.
You might wanna do some research to get the technical details. All RAM is utilized by the system regardless of how much RAM is actually used.
Even though it is not a huge hit, it can and does have a slight and continuous performance hit.
Focus point should be what is supported by the motherboard, what is on its compatible RAM list and then one with lower latency.
A better quality, lower latency 16GB RAM would serve anyone much better than a mediocre brand and/or higher latency 32GB RAM.

I'm not here to do the research and educate you. If you want to learn about the technical details of why there's no downside from a performance perspective, you'll have to learn how RAM works on your own time.

Curious, what are you here for?
Please don't respond to my posts (as you have done in the past) in a disapproving and condescending tone.

What I share here was not something I merely read on a technical site but personally tested, especially what I wrote in my last post before this. Even though the information is logical, I still run some live benchmarks.
As always, I share it as a "take it or leave it" type information on a public forum.

What were you basing your claims on?
