No. A developer has proposed to build a large mixed use development on the site of the old New Haven Coliseum. As part of it, the developer wants the city/state to reconnect Orange Street north of Route 34 (where their site is located) to Orange Street south of Route 34 (the Union Station area). The other day Malloy annouced funding for that project so now the developer is supposedly obligated to the project. We will see if that actually happens. Jay

It will. I'm close to some of the people involved. This is more than likely going forward, and the developer has a strong track record.

I know that lenders like these bigger projects but it behooves me to think that maybe splitting up the properties and bidding out the parcels piecemeal? I'm just a layman here but it does seem that these developers bite off more than they can chew.

This developer has done many similar or larger projects. Look them up.

Here's my revised Top 10 Development Projects in New Haven. I'm amazed at the volume of projects really happening either in construction or approvals/funding in place. There are so many projects (for a small east coast city) that I'm limiting the 10 to central New Haven locations and then also putting an additional projects category. I'd love to see others' lists, other projects or make your own order. Consider potential economic impact; number of new residents or jobs created; potential for regional draw; potential for stimulating further development. Here goes:

1-Alexion Headquarters - new building; currently under construction
2-New Hotel at Coliseum site- new 4 star hotel; construction starts next yr
3-College Street Apartments - new building; currently under construction
4-Boathouse at Canal Dock - new building; currently under construction
5-Chapel/Howe Apartments - new building; currently under construction
6-Union Trust Apartments - renovate office building; currently under construction
7-Marriott Residence Hotel - new building; construction starts next yr
8-Wooster Sq Union Street Apartments - new building; construction starts next yr
9-Wooster Sq Comcast Apartments - new building; construction starts next yr
10-Wooster Sq Smoothie/Comcast Apartments - new building construction starts next yr

Also:
-Farmington Canal Linear Park completion to downtown - to be announced
-Crown Street Apartments at Park- renovate building; construction starts next yr
-Church Street Apartments at Crown - renovate building; construction starts next yr
-State St Star Apartment complex - renovate and new construction - to be announced
-Jordan's Furniture store - renovate NH Register building - to be announced
