No doubt we had some thermal antics today...and that wind strength and direction seemed to play a role:

NWS Bridgeport only hit 55F...while Tweed New Haven hit 58 F, then the southeast winds increased, and dropped the temp down to 56 F in one hr. Meanwhile, NWS Bradley was rising fast (3 F every hr) until the southeast winds got stronger, then they started to fall, so they never made it past 65 F. So in the end New Haven was only 7 F cooler, which was a bit of a shock to me:

Interestingly enough...NWS forecasts now has a 70 F reading for Thur in Connecticut. So it will be interesting to see how it plays out. Will at least Bradley and Meriden hit 70 F ? I suppose we can't complain not matter what happens, temps everywhere should still be 10 to 20 F above normal on Thur

Waters are still cold.

At least its sunny.
That's why the first day of a warm or heat wave is often the hottest in coastal areas; wind is till from the northwest or west. As an extreme in April and May Albany and even Montreal can be in the 80's or 90's while NYC struggles to get out of the 50's and 60's.

What always amazes me is how quickly the temp in spring jumps up just a few miles inland. Our coastal stations like Bridgeport, New Haven, NYC, and esp Groton, have their sensors just a few thousand feet from the edge of the ocean. However, just 5 or 6 miles inland, esp when there is a calm wind, the temps are much warmer (a lot like southern CA in spring). So I do think, that the coastal measurement really reflect right along the immed coast.

Right now I'm in Chester, and the car temp says, 70 F. Checking the 1:00 PM obs, my sensor is not far off - Chester is showing 66 F right now. Meriden (the Yuma of CT) is already 68 F. At this rate, I think much of inland CT might crack 70 F by the 4 pm obs:

Between the power of the sun, the blue skies, and the heat....it feels summer like.

It looks like the NW winds warmed most locations state wide today. However, temps were a bit strange geographically:

The warm air made it into Connecticut and the coastal NY area, and that NW wind direction helped: Bridgeport hit 62 F....New Haven 64 F. Central Park hit 74 F. Inland we cracked 70 F in a few spots: Hartford-Brainard hit 73 F...Meriden hit 70 F....Willimantic hit 69F...and Danbury 72 F. There was really warm (to hot) temps just to our south, Wilmington, DE hit 77 F and Mount Holly, NJ 78 F.

...but, just to the north up along the Massachusetts, Boston only hit 49 ! That east wind kept most of eastern MA in the 40's F today while most of CT was in the 60's and 70's F. At one point today, Hartford was 24 F warmer than Boston

Looks like that cooler air came down from New England and hit Bradley before they could get warm, while Bridgeport had NW winds and stayed warmer longer. Bradley only made it to 57 F...while Bridgeport hit 72 F...and New Haven 63 F. Danbury hit 70 F.

Looks like a really nice weekend for getting the yard in shape - sunshine and temps 55 to 60 F. Looks dry and sunny (a bit cooler Tue, but still near normal) next week:

I'll take it! Love these scattered puffy clouds! No wind, just normal weather. Not cold.

Not looking forward to this... Jet stream dipping in the East..

GFS says another cold shot after next week.
