Agree. That is going to be one of the bigger hazards with this storm.

While most areas in southern and coastal Connecticut/Long Island had a dusting of snow or rain/mix with little snow left on the ground, there are some spots well inland with 6 inches + on the ground. Right now temps are in the mid 30's and it's all pretty much locked up....but a whole different airmass is heading toward the Tri-State area now. We'll go from dry cold in the low 30's F today... to moist and mild near 50 F by tonight. So places with things still frozen will melt fast. You can see the warm surge moving from southwest to northeast in the temp prediction for later tonight. The gradient will be pretty sharp - the northern suburbs of Boston are near freezing...while it's in the 55 - 58 F range in southern New Jersey. Add in 2 to 4 inches of heavy windswept rain and we could see some issues.

Late tonight:

Lots of Virga again over NJ, Southern NY and CT

I thought this was an interesting close - up of the Tri-State area at the moment. It's still cold in Hartford area (32 F), but you can see the warmer east winds being drawn inland toward the storm over the Great Lakes (Bridgeport is reporting 41 F). This shows the very first part of the front and change in air mass heading toward us. It would be an interesting drive this morning from Springfield, MA to New Haven or Bridgeport:

In central CT it's still frigid although it's raining. I hated getting all this snow, maybe 9" or so. It would be a dream come true if it would rain all day tomorrow and also be warm. Wash away all this ugly snow!

Loop past 4hrs. Tons of precip and wind coming. Back edge is now in PA.

The thin black lines are the isobars. The tighter they are the windier it is. There is a 977mb powerhouse storm over Michigan! Wow. As it moves east its putting pressure against the High Pressure over the Atlantic

Rain continues across the region and will only get heavier as we head into the mid-evening thanks to strong warm advection/isentropic lift and exceptional upper-level forcing...so this is it. Wind gusts seem to be mounting at 8 PM obs (30 to near 37 mph)...all stations reporting rain...and temps well into the 40's at most locations:

Wow - one of the biggest meteorological misses in years. It. Rained. A little bit of wind but CT power outages ripped out at several hundred. I’m already in the city - trains and subways working great. No flooding on roads. They talked of 50 million losing power on the East coast (happy to provide links). Absolutely abject failure and hype porn. Meteorologists should be ashamed. I look forward to hearing how Canton got 73” of rain (where is that?) or the wind broke a machine at another obscure municipal airport.

Gotta say, not sure what the totals are in Bethel, but that was a lot of rain.....as far as the wind goes, found my trash can on it's side across our driveway.

Is that technically a squall line without being accompanied by thunder?

“A squall line, or more accurately a quasi-linear convective system (QLCS), is a line of thunderstorms, often forming along or ahead of a cold front.”
