I think one of the most interesting things to look at in the final 10 days of January… is will the month end with mean temps normal /or above normal?

At one point early in the month, all three the area NWS stations were 4 to 6 F above normal. The last 3 days have been below normal…and now NWS Bridgeport is running 3.3 F above normal. Bridgeport had 11 days of 40 F or higher (normal high is only 38 F in January).

We should again have below normal temps for the next three days. Then by Mon temps will be close to normal, and above normal by Tuesday. It will be interesting to see if area NWS stations can finish the month with above normal temps or if they end close to normal ?.

It's ashame because there is a Norlun trough that will be setting up and we're not in it.

This is an excellent short explanation of the inverted/norlun trough for this upcoming event. I like it even more because he does what I do and explains in a way that everybody can understand. Very well presented.

Great minds think alike. I was wondering the same thing. My guess; 0.5° above.

Would rather be sweating than bundled up and tip toeing across ice!

You may be close. I was thinking maybe 1 F above normal.

While it seems like a sure bet that we will moderate from Tues through Sat...some of the model data is now showing another modest cold shot (though not as deep as this one) in the last 3 or 4 days of the month.?

NWS seems to now be thinking only an inch or less in most of CT.

Only school closings or early dismissals so far are in NJ where they are expected more.

Lots of dud potential oh well...
