Yes, yesterday was a warm one for late January - it hit 53 F at Bridgeport (NWS Bradley also hit 53 F yesterday, so the mild air was in northern CT too it looks like). Some of the family was at condo in southern DE and said it hit 66 F yesterday.

NWS always plays it safe....

I've never seen them do that before. Usually that very light blue they say '<1"'

Looks like they spread out the light snow a little geographically now, but I never have never seen amounts under an inch actually posted. Must be something new?

Loved it.
Man enhanced climate change warming is great isn't it. I say bring it to CT. ALL day and Sunday. Cambium can migrate to MN or Saskatchwan for his snow.
As a grade schooler in the late 70's and early 80's we were always told an ice age was coming. THANK GOD that's not happening, anytime soon atleast. If that didn't get us than a nuclear war with the USSR would.
Imagine you're dying waning days freezing and starving to death in a makeshift igloo. No thanks, I'll take global warming.

(Note - I don't care if I spelled it wrong)

Washington, DC got to 81, their first ever 80+ in January (and the next nearest date for one is almost a month later, though they do have several in late February spread through the decades). It was 79 there on this date in 1950, so it's "wait and see" as to whether this is an anomoly or we start seeing these every few years or so......

I don't know about Washington, but NYC has low seventies records spread all the way through the year. I personally remember a 72° day on January 6, 2006, for example, and 70°a few days before Christmas in 2015.

The northeast has warmed considerably

Koppen climate system, data from 1991-2020 Connecticut.

Almost two thirds of CT is now a 'Cfa' climate- known as 'humid temperate' of 'humid subtropical'

Also 2017 Koppen data, scroll down to the bottom for the northeast. They are processing new data for 2023. Data from 1991-2010 is dated.

I don't know or I don't really remember what they did in the past. I thought a few times I saw them put in numbers like 0.5 or 0.7, but who knows. Maybe they start a snow map so they can up date it later if need be? I checked it this morning, and it looks the same.

Okay - how much of that is from increased density? We’ve also been in El Niño for some time. The early part of the 2010s was the coldest I’ve ever experienced in 4+ decades.
