It really doesn’t matter all that much how many McDonalds there are. Americans aren’t obese cause we go to McDonalds once in a while and get a burger and fries. Americans are obese because fast food is a primary part of our diet, there are people that get fast food every single day at lunch. We are obese because we don’t get a burger and fries, we get two Big Macs , supersize fries, a milkshake and an apple pie.
Having fast food in Europe doesn’t mean Europeans use them the same as we do. They still eat way more fresh veggies and fiber and real food than we do, and not in the same gluttonous quantities we do.
What the heck are you TALKING about? Most Brits don’t get cosmetic dentistry like we do, but the teeth are still perfectly functional.
They (think) they are being 'funny', its a ridiculously BAD stereotype, and it is about as funny as falling down the stairs when you hear it, but they still (think) they are being funny. . There is no truth to the dentist thing at all:-
There is some truth behind the 'obese' Americans thing, HOWEVER the British (and other Europeans) are not far behind (and its getting worse). The problem is portion sizes (monstrously huge in the US and getting bigger here) and lack of exercise. Its simply modern living, something has to be done about it.
Last trip I was gone for a month, when I came back I was at my local Target and took a good look around and took notice of how many people were overweight, and I don't mean just a few pounds. The sad thing was many were in their 20s or 30s.
And I live in Southern CA, where people tend to be more health conscious than other parts of the country.
Fun fact = the obesity rates of Ireland and California are almost identical at 25%, while Scotland's is higher than both at 29%.
I'm not doubting you saw overweight people at Target upon returning from your Scotland/Ireland vacation but this shows why one person's personal observations, bias, and anecdotal accounting means little.

I have no opinion on the situation of McDonalds in each country, I just wanted to do the math.
Looks like it's a mix, some countries in Europe eat more veggies than Americans and some do not. Definitely a trend towards healthier eating of vegetables in the South. Interestingly of the top five most populous European countries only Italy eats more veggies per capita than USA.
When they do these obesity statistics are they breaking out the morbidly obese? Because I have seen chubby Germans and such, but not people that were easily 100 pounds overweight.
We eat too much processed food. Too much sugar and chemicals, We eat too quickly. We are too stressed out, and have no time to cook, linger over a nice meal and take a walk.
I agree with the poster above that it’s a lifestyle thing. I’m not throwing around shame.

I tried to find something online that broke it down but couldn't find anything. I agree with you, obese is not the same as morbidly obese, and I do not think other areas of the world outside certain Pacific Island nations have nearly the degree of morbid obesity we have. Every time I tried to search for morbid obesity rates though I just got standard obesity rates.

Fun fact, I was over there for almost 2 months recently, and not my first trip.
I paid attention on purpose in shopping malls, walking around, went to a couple of concerts...sorry to burst your bubble, but I didn't see that many fat people.
And all over the country.
They eat healthier fresher foods over there. It's logical, you surrounded by water and there is a lot of cattle over there. The portions also aren't as large.
It's not being biased, I am telling you what I saw.
