But, for sure, managing a deer population to suit the trophy deer hunters will be a question of "best quality deer harvests" rather than anything about favoring a natural population …

I rest my case ...
Private ranches cull management bucks to make sure the ones with the most tines reproduce. On some ranches the bucks look freakishly large and I'm surprised they count as records any more.

The state of Michigan does the same thing.

The point is that the herds are healthier, and produce better deer (and lions, and elephants, and buffalo, etc.).

If your case is that you would prefer herds to be overpopulated, comprised of animals whose growth was stunted due to the overpopulation, and less viability in the herd overall, then I guess you have made your point. But I don't think that most who are involved with wildlife conservation would agree with you.

Who REALLY wants the deer head killed is the auto insurance industry.

This.

In GA, the current deer limit is 12 for the regular season. Special draw hunts, and other special situations can add even more deer to the allowed harvest. One of the biggest drivers of this is the insurance industry. Deer are so overpopulated that deer/car accidents are very common.

This is why I have a game catcher in the front and a lifted truck.

Yes …

Recreational hunters often will try for a "trophy" and also a lot of meat …

Subsistence hunter/gatherers operate more responsibly ...

Some people that live in cities have no idea what it is like to drive and try to not hit a deer.

I have a permanent disability for a truck/deer accident.
