From her pet Rats, or her pet CATS? While probably not many pregnant women have pet rats, I would bet a LOT have pet cats. Some pregnant "Cat Ladies" even feed and pet strays.

Yeah, I know all about that pregnant women should not change their cats kitty litter. That was around over 30 years ago. Ignored it and just WASHED MY HANDS while pregnant after changing their litter. Still do it in old age. It is just simple basic sanitary condition like washing your OWN hands after using the toilet.

Toxoplasmosis - Mayo Clinic
"For infants born to infected mothers and for people with weakened immune systems, toxoplasmosis can cause extremely serious complications. . . If you are pregnant or have lowered immunity, certain medications can help reduce the infection's severity. The best approach, though, is prevention."

My allowable three sentences. Read the link. See especially the section on prevention. Handwashing is not enough. It is preferable for someone else to change the litter.

Opened alarmist thread started by anti-vaxxer, saw OP and Jo getting called out for irrational and scientifically dubious claims, getting owned as usual. All went better than expected.

Rolls off my back, Juram. I am not trying to convince or change any else's mind as some, nameless, on here are.

Maybe in my old age, I have become more sarcastic, and even more defiant than in my "hippie" youth. Believe whatever you want. Do whatever you want, as "long as you don't have young children". Because the bottom line is that the "medical professionals" can do nothing about vaccinations to those over 18.

I love to hear the "scripted responses" which I have heard over decades. Amuses me.

Argue on and drink your Kool Aide.

FTR, I am not trying to change your mind. I am trying to prevent dangerous misinformation from spreading. If you don't care, then shut up. You could hurt someone.

I am not quoting science either way. I am only giving my own elderly life experiences. If that flies in the face of what you consider unscientific and dangerous, it just is what is. If it wasn't true, then I would not be alive today at my age, or posting on here. Living proof, as they say. I am sure there are millions of others with the same life experiences, but people with a certain agenda do not want to hear or know it.

It is not anything more than your experience. That's the problem. You present it as though your experience is THE experience. It is not. People can be, and are, hurt.

So you continue to amuse yourself, as you say, which is fanning the fire of destructive ignorance. Equating your experience to the full body of scientific fact is inequitable. Which is compounded by your unwillingness to accept other individual experiences. You laugh those off as trite and silly. They are not.

I don't doubt your experiences. But I do consider you lucky. And you should at the very least be grateful you've been unaffected by what so many others have. It isn't funny, so stop treating it as though it is.

People have told her that repeatedly, if it doesn't happen to her, then it must not exist, either she's an extreme narcissist or just unbelievably ignorant. Take your pick.

Looking at overall statistics and data that is available presents a much clearer picture than some cranky person that thinks their existence defines everyone elses reality.

We're getting there with polio!
Nigeria marks polio-free year, raising global eradication hopes | Reuters
Once polio is eradicated, there will be no need to vaccinate for it, or against it, I should say.

As one cranky old hippie to another, who has personally seen the results of your kind of thinking, CUT IT OUT! It is not "amusing" to any sane person to play with the lives of others, especially children. And Kool Aid comes in more than one flavor - the anti-vaccers drink it by the gallon.

You're not being "defiant" no matter what you tell yourself. You're being self-absorbed and refusing to see that other people exist and that they can be and have been harmed by people with just your "it didn't happen to me so it must not happen to anyone" kind of thinking.

You may have gotten older since your hippie days (yes, I marched and learned first hand how to dress to handle tear gas), but you haven't gotten any wiser (isn't that one of the points of aging and one of the perks?); you appear to be stuck in adolescent "the world revolves around me and my experience is the sum total of the experience of the world".
