I don't know. Apparently it's a setting. You can turn it off or turn it on as I understand it from my husband just now. He enabled his tracking for insurance discount purposes, and also in case his car is stolen but he can disable it quickly and then re-enable it.

Here's a news video from her vigil. Note at about the 1:30 mark, they interview a neighbor who has surveillance video of the street. The implication is he's the one who captured the SUV "whizzing" down the street at 4 and returning at 5, but it's not made at all clear that's the case. All that is said is the cops have been out 5 times looking at his video which is pointed at the street.
This is totally off topic but I wish parents wouldn't bring their little children to these vigils. When I see little kids with signs at that tree it breaks my heart. They shouldn't be subjected to this stuff. Adults know something is very off. Young children probably think they can bring Sherin back. Just stop it.
While this little girl's ethnicity and possibly original nationality were Indian, it appears that her adoptive parents - the father, at least - were not Indian, judging by his name. It has been reported that this child was adopted, I would guess from India.
Both the husband and wife are from India.

I live in Richardson and sadly I don't know any more than the rest of you guys. The whole story stinks to high heaven.
The video says there was a grove of trees by a college, where they found some "objects of interest". They received leads indicating there had been some activity during the night in question, in a field by the college.
I am hoping examination of the SUV plus additional videos may help solve the case.
So very sad for this lovely little girl...
Yes, very sad indeed. Even people in my neighborhood are scouring their security camera footage for the family's three cars. Lots of people in this area have set up wired & wireless systems; you can buy them for between 400 & 1000 bucks at Sam's and Costco. Thefts from front porches & unlocked parked cars are not unheard of around here. We're about 3-4 miles west of where this happened.

Doesn't seem like much to go on, yet.
Yeah; and unlike usual, nobody in the neighborhood has any inside info on this. Or if they do, they're not sharing it with us.
