I've been looking for a decent place to live in the Dallas Area (safe community, good schools, nice homes, etc.) and feel that Highland Village offers what I'm looking for. Unfortunately I will be working just outside of Forney. Via google, it calculate the drive as 48 mile in about an hours time, all on the freeways. Does this sound about right?

An hour for that long haul? What route does it have you taking? I bet you are looking more like 90-100 minutes each way if you are in typical rush hour times.

Take a look at Rockwall. That commute would be super easy. Since your considering Highland Village to a look at Sunnyvale. It has the same feel and your commute would be 10 minutes.

North Rockwall (The Shores) to Hulen & I-20 in Ft. Worth
1h10m (fastest) to 2 hours in traffic
Typical morning is 1h 20m using 30 to 635 to 20. I don't brave I30 through downtown during rush hour.

My commute...Story Rd/Walnut Hill (home) to MacArthur/Hidden Ridge (office). It's now 10 minutes instead of 5 minutes due to the orange line dart rail construction mess. Can't complain though, it's an easy commute compared to what I'm reading on this thread.

Takes me 30-35 min to drive from McKinney (Eldorado and Custer) to Garland (Forest and Shiloh). I drive 75, but that is at 6:15 to 6:30 in the AM. PM usually takes a bit longer since I usually don't leave work until around 4:30.
