I have an acquaintance who lives in Southlake and works in Plano..He's says the commute is awful and works from home most of the time. Worth mentioning that he lives closer to the Kellar side of Southlake, but still says it takes well over an hour. Not sure if he's exaggerating so he can work from home more, but either way doesn't sound fun.

Mesquite seems like a odd place to live if your considering Flower Mound, McKinney, Plano and Frisco. I could understand Sunnyvale but Mesquite is not typically mentioned with the other cities posted.

Thanks, everyone. I was actually inquiring for a client of mine who is looking at job opportunities in those cities but is interested in living in Southlake/Colleyville. I could guesstimate on the commute times in rush hour, but since I don't make those drives everyday, I wanted to get first hand input from those that do. Thanks for the information! Very helpful. =)

Mesquite- you'll arrive a skeleton, a frazzled skeleton, an angry frazzled skeleton

if looking at a job in Mesquite, look at living in Sunnyvale, not Colleyville

there are great neighborhoods in Flower Mound and excellent schools
if someone was working in Flower Mound I would really suggest checking out neighborhoods in their price range--
if they can afford Southlake or Colleyville they can find nice areas in Flower Mound--

Same with Plano--
Plano has excellent schools although I understand there are some questions about the ongoing status of the district because of changes
but why not check out neighborhoods that might work as well as Southlake or Colleyville...
I admit that the "look" of Plano is different from Southlake or Colleyville but it is certainly better than an hour's commute each way

What times are notorious for being "rush hour"?

And if possible, can you elaborate as to which direction (towards or away from Dallas)?

Rush hour is roughly 7:00 - 9:00am and 4:00 - 6:00pm. Morning traffic typically heads toward Dallas while the afternoon commute consist of most folks heading out to the burbs. A reverse commute would be folks heading out towards the burbs for work. I hope this helps.

HOWEVER, morning traffic headed INTO Grapevine/Southlake is worse than traffic headed out of it. I have yet to figure out why this is...

Wait a second, I've never driven it with a stopwatch, but Southlake to McKinney during rush hour is 65-80 minutes? Are you kidding me??? We're talking about reverse commute via 121/Sam Rayburn Tollway and when it's a tollway, the speed limit is 70 (people go 75). The way back is the same thing, reverse commute. Really going to take 65-80 minutes to commute to McKinney and back?
