Yesterday was Dallas' eighth day so far this summer with 100 + degrees. The average is sixteen days. Hopefully, the average won't even be met but with the predictions for this week, it looks like the temperatures may surpass it.

The good part is that last year, there were more than 30 days of triple digit temperatures and in 2006, for example, there were 46.

I'm south of Dallas and this morning, it actually felt pretty good outside, relatively cool (mid 70s) and much drier than it has been all summer. Nice!! The drier air surely makes a difference, and I like it.

DaveG99 ... The end of the week is supposed to be quite humid, so the heat index ought to be really high. This too shall pass, just not anytime really soon.

Would you rather be in DFW with 100+ temperatures and humidity in the 20s...or in New Orleans or Florida with temperatures in the 90s and drenching humidity like someone has sprayed you down with buckets of sweat? You wouldn't have a dry stitch of clothes on your entire body in New Orleans or Florida...whereas here it's just hot.

Id rather have 90's with humidity. Pouring rain would be nice too.

I lived in Florida for 14 years and it was much easier to deal with that than the 100+ degree days here.

No way! My dh and I literally sat in the pool all day when we weren't out snorkeling when we visited Key West in June. 90s with all that humidity, you'd take a few steps trying to do something active and just be drenched and there was no relief in the shade. It's hotter than hades here right now, but I can actually sit on my covered back patio during the day with the humidity where it is.

I'll gladly take hot as hades heat all day today w/ not a single drop of rain for miles and miles and please Lord, no thunder, lightening or high winds today. Not today. Tomorrow will be fine but not today.

I do as well.

"August 2, 1985 is a day Dallas, Texas will never forget. Throughout the afternoon, the weather was typical Texas. Hot temperatures, low humidity, and sunny skies. At 4:03 PM eastern daylight time, Delta Airlines flight 191, a Lockheed L-1011-385-1, lifted off from runway 9L at the Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood International Airport. Aboard the aircraft today were 167 passengers and crew traveling to Los Angeles with a stop at Dallas/Ft. Worth. As the flight cruised over the vast farmlands of Louisiana, something strange began to happen at Dallas."

You like having sweaty wet clothes and sweaty wet hair, with sweat pouring out of every pore of your entire body from head to foot that won't dry up in the sauna-wet high humidity air? No way!

You just described life in Dallas for most days out of the year.

It's not even remotely close to the conditions in the southeastern states, which have much, much higher humidity. Go visit New Orleans, Biloxi, Orlando, Miami, Atlanta, Birmingham, Charlotte...or any city close to the Mississippi River all the way north. You'll see what humidity really is. Ever been to a place like Belize or the Amazon rain forest?

Have you ever wondered why cars don't have bug guts on their windshields and front bumpers in the DFW area? It's because we have very few bugs! Why? Because the humidity is fairly low. Now, ask residents of New Orleans, Biloxi, Orlando, Miami, Atlanta, Birmingham, Charlotte, etc. about bug guts!
