She had a high fever. Meaning she had an infection [possibly ears] But infections trend to spread. So have the vet check her vision & hearing. The infection could be behind the eye ball. Meaning when the infection clears her hearing & vision should return.
Another thing can a damaged brain in time repair it's self or rewire? I've heard of this happening in some animals. I don't think it can happen in people.
The symptoms of canine cognitive dysfunction are similar to those that your dog is experiencing:
Getting "lost" in a corner of a room or yard or behind a door and being unable to find their way out.
Not recognizing people or things that they were familiar with.
Not responding to their name, staring fixedly
Increased fearfulness.
CCD is thought to be caused by brain lesions, so it's not surprising that your dog is displaying similar symptoms after being so ill. Seizures in and of themselves can cause memory loss. However, It's possible that the impairment is only temporary and will pass. Even if your dog doesn't regain all of her memories, if she recovers physically there's every possibility that she can lead a normal life and relearn what she's forgotten.
She's come a long way already, so don't give up on her yet.
Your dog needs the room - the time - to heal. Let that be your first priority. Let the vet guide you towards the best course of recovery for your dog.
You make the rules, so if you bring your dog home you can keep the dogs separate. Baby gates are a wonderful invention and I've used them liberally in my house .
You can set your dog up in a quiet part of your home (maybe your bedroom?) and keep the other dog and all distractions away.
I know you want to know "why" this happened, but that might take some time to figure out. Try not to focus on blaming anyone or suing anyone too quickly until all the facts are in. Try to remain calm and focus on the most important thing which is helping your dog recover.
Hi, I was going to upload some pictures but my camera broke. I will when I can. She is doing good today and doctor is real glad to. Now I think she was in some kind of coma and she is now coming out of it. Doctor said she has been very very stressed out in last three days. She looks at me like she's mad at me because of what's has happen to her. Her eyes look mean looking.
Thanks, John
