I don't believe they will be closing the one over the hill but I guess I don't know for sure.

I would love to see Dick's Sporting Goods come to Duluth. I like Gander Mountain, but ours is pretty sad compared to some of the other GM stores. The downside would be the hurting it would put on GM, but perhaps there's enough business for both. Actually, I'd rather have Cabela's and/or REI, but those are just dreams.

Attention wannabe franchisees: we need another Jimmy Johns up on the hill, where there's some decent parking...

Lately I've been wondering how many Walgreen's stores we really need. What will we have when all construction is done - four?

I also think we need some more bars in downtown Superior .

My wife has heard a few times that REI is not interested in coming up to Duluth simply out of respect for the thriving local outfitters up here...knowing they would likely put them out of business or at least hurt them significantly. Not sure if any of the other big chains have a soul or not, but perhaps that explains part of the lack of big box outdoor stores.

What outfitters are left in town?

The closet thing we have to one would be to combine The Ski Hut and Gander MT?

I agree, I don't see REI moving to Duluth any time soon.

Would Duluth Pack be considered an outfitters?

I believe Duluth Pack would be considered one by the likes of REI, and perhaps they are also sensitive towards the local outfitters in Ely and up the Shore, as they also do rentals and would I'm sure shut down many mom and pop canoe and tent rental/cabin/resort types all over up there.

Not defending or attacking their opinion or saying what is right or wrong, just saying what we have heard.

I don't consider a Co who just makes and sells packs and a few plaid shirts to be a outfitter.

An outfitter should have everything you need to enjoy the outdoors.
From packs to canoes from shoes to climbing gear.
jmo.

Dick's is quite a bit different than Gander Mtn. GM is geared toward fishing, hunting and camping. Dicks has that stuff, too but most of it is ball and yard sports as well as golf and shoes. Think of Dick's as a fancier and larger Dunham's. I think Dick's will have more of an impact on Dunham's and Stauber Bros. than they will on GM.

I saw it this morning on the DNT online. Not too excited about a third Grizzly's, I'd rather see something new to the area in that space(I wish Hell's Kitchen would come back!). But with all the vacancies downtown, anything is an improvement.

There is construction type activity happening now down at the location of the old Spring Company at the beginning of Canal Park across from the gas station, wonder what is going in there?
