Schumer and Gillibrand have those seats as long as they wanted them, so a Senate seat in the near future was far from set in stone. With that being said he did have a very bright future ahead of him and threw it all away.

And Obama has shown you can get demolished with the Orthodox vote in the district and still win the district. The determining factor really isn't going to be the Orthodox vote, (since McCain won it big and still lost), its actually going to be what group turns out heavier. The liberal secular upper middle class Jews and Asians in Forest Hills or the conservatives in Howard Beach

so Orthodox Jewish Turnout doesn't count? (we had a low turnout in the obama election due to the fact it was clear to everyone there was zero chance of Obama losing NY and most Jewish Assembly and Senate seats were basically unopposed)

With Democrat David Weprin trailing Turner by six points -- 50 to 44, according to Friday’s Siena Poll -- the Democratic Party is scrambling to raise voter turnout. It has tapped Gov. Cuomo for pro-Weprin robo-calls.

Turner's winning in a heavily Democratic district for two reasons: a huge lead with independents and a large amount of crossover support.

Meaning dems are voting for Turner.

If Turner wins on Tuesday it will be largely due to the incredible unpopularity of Barack Obama dragging his party down in the district.

Obama won this district with 55% of the vote. 56% of voters now disapprove.

One final note on the poll and what perhaps should concern Democrats most of all.
