Yes, Trump still has the Senate but there is still no spinning 2018 as a good year for the GOP. Anyone who does is lying or willfully ignoring reality

Seeing as how much Republicans love to put down California, the results weren't that surprising.

Except of course if you know anything about the electoral history of Orange County, California.

I live in an affluent LA beach city, so I'm familiar with the OC-type of Republican-leaning Californians. We had more than a few neighbors with Romney/Ryan signs in 2012. Turning OC blue wasn't that big of a surprise to me since this election was a referendum on the national GOP, and Republicans both in word and action (changes to SALT deduction, anyone?) aren't at all aligned with many Californians' interests.

Orange County slipping away isn't that much of a surprise as it has been trending that way and no question Trump was going to accelerate it. A complete wipe out on the other hand was surprising.

Why did you cherry pick and post only the US Senate results? And left off the US House results and the fact that many state races moved in the D direction also - resulting in several Governorships flipping from R to D.

Now the Mississippi Senate runoff is apparently getting close. Trump is planning a rally in Mississippi. Deep red Mississippi.

In reality, he probably needs the adoration of the crowds more than anything though and that's the real reason for the rally. He's had a rough 2 weeks. First the House flipped to D. Now, he tried to strong arm Jim Acosta and lost the court case.

Tired of all the winning yet?

Because it was expected. Why do you think Ryan resign?

This year the most interesting factor was that the 1/3 of the Senate up for election included states which were either trending more R or had been solid R for decades. Dems losing Indiana, Missouri and North Dakota were pretty much simple math exercises. The D flip in Arizona was huge and the R flip in Florida is really the only bright spot for Rs.

In the House Ds were having to gain ground in hugely gerrymandered districts- so coming up with 40 was no easy task. You also have to consider that 06 and 08 were both D waves so the party had truly extended beyond what is natural reach should have been. The biggest takeaway from the last two elections is that the parties are realigning- Rs took working class whites and Ds took educated whites and suburban women.
Actually we were both wrong about the number of Senate pickups by Republicans in 2010...actually Republicans picked up 6 Senate seats in 2010, 9 Senate seats in 2014 and 2 Senate seats in 2018.

Still I agree the Dems had a very good midterm election result just not as good as Republicans did when Obama was President.

What "LIBERAL OC"?? Orange Country has been a long time bastion of the conservative movement. That's why all that red is in the before picture, because those have been long term GOP held seats.

Do you just assume everywhere in California is liberal, without actually knowing the reality?
