That would be an ironic assumption given the soon to be House Minority Leader is actually from one of the few remaining solidly Republican districts in California. Kevin McCarthy represents the Bakersfield area which has more in common with much of Texas or Oklahoma than other parts of California. But Republicans appear to be in terminal decline in the coastal parts of the state, even those where they performed well before Trump took over the party.
Hilary won OC in 2016. I’m not really think this blue wave is a big surprise. I think it’s expected, and not really blue wave. Not when the Senate still holds the majority.

Exactly! Trump knew he couldn't hold the house, but knew if he stumped he might be able to hold the Senate - which he managed to do.
He needs the Senate more than the House. The House has the power of the purse and he has the power of the veto. Anything the house passes has to be passed in the Senate. He needed the Senate to get all of his confirmations through and the House can't do a damn thing about it. All they can do is investigate everything he does and any whim - exactly what they said they wouldn't do.
He basically won.
I guarantee that when Pelosi becomes the ML, Waters is put in charge of finance, and the whole list of Progressive Socialists (with their newly minted power) will not be able to contain themselves. They will quickly show their corruption.
Trump had an extraordinarily favorable Senate map. Yes, it's good for him that he was able to hold the Senate but the reality is that was more about circumstances than his favorability. A more balanced map with a more evenly divided number of seats between red and blue would likely have been a different story.
The new US House of Representatives will send just one new woman Republican member to DC. It's delegation of some 200 members will only have 13 women in total, its smallest number since the early 1990's. The Democrats will have 89 women in their 230 some seat delegation.
The new US Senate, at best for Republicans, will have just 7 women provided Cindy Hyde-Smith wins the MS seat runoff. The smaller Democrat senate delegation will will have 17 women.
well to me it is still the way it was the day after the election: Blue wave which was predicted for the house: Red for the senate which was also predicted. I know some here who are totally anti GOP want to gloat so go ahead. It makes you feel better, just like a candy bar makes a kid feel better.

A pick up of a couple of seats was not a "red wave" which is of course what Trump and many of his fans predicted. No one is denying that the GOP maintained and even slightly increased their majority in the Senate. But across the country, Democrats got millions more votes, had their biggest gains in the House since Watergate and flipped hundreds of state level positions across the country including 7 governorships. Those facts are why people are discussing the 2018 blue wave.

I think they will slow down the economy. Then they will be boot out in 2020.

You call it blue wave, we call it red wave. I say tomato, you say tomato. In short call it whatever you like, and so will I.
The Democrats have now got at least 40 US House seats. California 21 is still to be called with the Democrat quickly closing in on the Republican as more absentee ballots get counted. The some 5,000 vote gap on election night has now shrunk to just 447 with thousands of votes still yet to be tabulated.
As all the votes are nearly counted, it has become apparent that the Democrats have registered the biggest national popular vote margin in US House elections by either party in five decades. It may even possibly exceed the Watergate 1974 race. The gap in votes is approaching some 9M nationwide (8%).
