This is a good thing to remember. Never mind what your personal opinions are about the UK and the people living there, there's no way denying that the UK is one of the most successful, influential and wealthiest nations in the world for the last.... well... 600 years or so.

What about the 750.000 britons (mostly elderly) retiring and living in spain..

Yeah, Spain has warm, sunny weather which is why it is so appealing to Britons, and in any case, Brits have always been willing and eager to move and travel the world.
