It would not surprise me if there was some western influence (i.e. the US) causing the violence. The US would love for this to turn violent, the US, and the EU, would gain the most from it.
The killings; well probably some stuff that has nothing to do with the protests, some people will take advantage of situations to carry out acts like this.

All killing aren't committed by police, even on this square people were killed with civilian weapons.
But on the square there are lot of people who have any guns and Molotov cocktails which they throw at police.

No one in Ukraine has said that America, Russia or EC organised this acts, but there are many people who came to Kiev from other countries to set fire violence after refusing ukrainian authorities to sign association with EC.
Violence in Ukraine would force the Ukrainian gov to use violance in return, but the US gov (among others) would be obtuse to this fact, thus rally around imposing sanctions and anything else to cripple the current Ukrainian gov.
Right now, it is very difficult to demonize the Ukrainian gov when they have not hardly done anything.
The US has a long history on intervening in the internal affairs of other countries; from assassinations to backing anti-gov groups, it is not uncommon for the US to have some sort of presence in the internal affairs of a country they have interests in.

Alright, so every big protest that happens around the world we will just automatically blame the US.
