How many Blacks in Canada? Maybe they just don't like the Nordic countries?
1) Canada is NOT and Nordic country. Sweden, Denmark, Finland, and Norway are Nordic countries.
2) There are 945,665 Blacks in Canada.
3) There are some Black people moving to Nordic countries, particularly Sweden.

During the communits era, blacks were "Internationalistic" students and they were perceived as freeloaders, but they were sacred. So blacks from Angola, Moçambique, Cuba, etc, had no problems since they were above common Russians, they had privileges, their own shops and permits that allowed them to become traffickers (cars, foodstufs).
When Communism fell, all those "Internationalists" (notwithstanding their colour) became "roaches", along with Caucasians, etc.

Even back in Soviet times, though, they had to put up with everyday run-of-the-mill racism from the public. Ideology is one thing. Individual human failings and prejudice are another.

Not where I lived.
Average Russians didn't like to interefere with them too much, knowing that whatever happens, the police would always be on a side of a foreigner ( they did bring hard currency in the country after all,) except for Russians who wanted to deal with them ( because of the Black market deals or otherwise.)

I don't mean anything dramatic. I only mean the occasional insult muttered as someone walks by. Even members of Russia's Asian nationalities had that to deal with, when in Moscow or St. Pete's as university students, some have said.
Now it is opposite in areas of Russia, where ethnic Russians (especially women), have to put up with the harassment of non-ethnic Russians and immigrants.
I believe that many American Blacks do not have an overwhelming desire to travel to Russia because of the familiarity of brutal racism unlike Africans and other ethnic minorities there

No denial, but the reason why Russians would "occasionally mutter insult," is because Russians are generally more outspoken and more straightforward about their likes and dislikes than Westerners. That doesn't mean, however, that Westerners don't have their own among them who dislike/despise Blacks/people of color; they are simply more clandestine about it, Anglo-Saxons in particular.
When it's coming to this negative sentiment, it's universal among all Eureopans - it means it's always harbored there, no matter what official laws are.
On a brighter side - whenever Russians would strike a friendship with a Black/Asian - it's always very genuine and very heartfelt; very much like a sentiment that these people share among themselves.

I've read those stories; horrible, particularly for Russians who were left behind in now Islamic Asian former republics of the Soviet Union.
