Honestly Russia is just European with some Asiatic colonies.
Imagine a super-state stretching from Portugal to Siberia.
The power, the money, the wealth, it would all be for the taking. Embrace your future Europeans, your leaders are moving forward with this plan.
Except Russia doesn't want to be in the EU and the EU doesn't want Russia. Also here's just the news from last week regarding how "successful" the eu is:
1. The UK put battleships to defend its territory from eu regulations;
2. Bulgaria vetoed Makedonia's plans to join;
3. the euro is sinking vs bitcoin...
Add to that the usual problems: covid lack of responses, refugees and so on.
The only people who like the eu are austrian-americans who work for the American government, like one user here.

Anyone who thinks Mother Russia will submit to rule from Brussels, is sadly mistaken
All you need to do is look at the history books and the fact that European Empires have always failed and central rule from Brussels (and Strasbourg) is always going to come in to conflict with individual countries.
Furthermore political unity is not compatible with a number of countries constitutions and the European Court of Justice has recently been overruled by national and regional constitutional courts. The key to the EU's power was always it's courts and laws having supremacy over national courts, however recent cases have thrown this in to question.
It also makes the EU's demands that Britain submit to European courts in order to get a post Brexit free trade deal all the more ridiculous, and the EU now realise this isn't going to happen.
In terms of the European Court of Human Rights, Russia largely just ignores it, despite signing up to it, and has even been suspended from it, although it's now passed legislation to overrule the court, and there have been reports of Russia leaving the convention and Council of Europe, both being separate organisations to the EU but both are seen as important European institutions.
As for Russia, Churchill put it best when he stated "I cannot forecast to you the action of Russia. It is a riddle wrapped in a mystery inside an enigma; but perhaps there is a key. That key is Russian national interest".

The UK is the first to leave but others will inevitable follow.
Never. There is maybe more chance of countries breaking up into smaller countries which have distinct different states/areas/cultures/better economy. Like in the past history of Europe.

Actually, no. Historically, Russia was never a European country. I know that the progressives are working hard to revise history, but so far that has been pretty superficial. You can probably still do some research on Russian history if you wanted to put a small amount of effort into it and looked for a bit more depth than google sound bites of 26 words or less.

Western Russia IS physically in Europe though, whether they think of themselves as European or not.

Russia was ALWAYS a European country (even because of its geographical situation alone.)
And it didn't cease to be one, even after acquiring the vast colonies in Asia.
But throughout history it wanted to keep its uniqueness and independence from all kinds of external forces - that much is true.
Western Russia IS physically in Europe though, whether they think of themselves as European or not.
Deep inside they DO know that they ARE Europeans, they just often don't like to admit it publicly, cause that would interfere with them feeling so "special")))
( Sort of like the Englishmen feel about themselves.)
