i wear a lot of crop tops in the summer. i'm 26, i'm thin, but my body is far from tight and muscley. my midsection has always been soft. my abdomen doesn't gently crease when i bend over; it folds and bulges. i don't get muffintops, because i wear pants/shorts/skirts that fit properly. i don't get the dreaded bra strap bulges, because, again, i wear bras and tops that fit properly.
so even though i am young and active and kinda sorta fit, should i never show my body, except at the beach or in the bedroom, because it doesn't look like jlo's? do i have to go to the gym every day if i want to wear crop tops?
That's at your discretion, but by the sound of things, you really don't have anything to worry about. I was talking about women who are overweight and/or borderline obese wearing crop tops. You sound like you're in good overall shape.
I wouldn't have an issue with a fit and in-shape 55 year old woman wearing a bikini, or tying her shirt up to show her stomach, given that she's in good shape. However, if a 20 year old who is overweight tries to do the same, it's not going to look flattering on her.
To me, it's not so much about AGE as it is being in shape.
If I were my current age or younger, but overweight to the point to where it was noticeable, you'd better believe that I wouldn't be wearing tops that showed my midriff. However, I pride myself on being in shape and working out hard, so if I'm still fit when I'm 45 (which I truly believe I will be), then I'll probably keep wearing midriff tops (just maybe not as often).
Why do you think you would wear midriff shirts less often at 45?
I can't say that I've seen a woman in a crop top since the 90s, but maybe I'm not looking very hard.
Maybe they're still trendy in TX because of the warmer weather? I know I don't see many women wearing them here in NY regardless of age, even at the clubs during the summer.

Not sure, to be honest. I might wear them just as much as I do now, but I guess I was just keeping my options open to wearing other things too, hence decreasing the number of midriff tops in my regular rotation.

I don't know about 'trendy', but they're fairly common here.
I think you can do so at any age, but you should make sure you dont have that 'spare tire' or obvious stretch marks. Some can pull it off, some cant. Just my 2c.

Damn right they are, and it's just another reason I love the Great City of Austin. More gorgeous women per capita than anywhere in the world, and the sultry climate that enables them to prove it.
BTW: where in Texas are ya?

I'm right outside San Antonio. And I agree- Austin has a lot of beautiful people.
I posted earlier in this thread about if a woman looks good, she should do it. I have to add now that, early 40s women and older should really not do it no matter what they look like. They would just appear to be cougary/coyote single old women who are trying too hard to regain their youth which more often than not looks really pathetic. Nothing says "Im lonely and nearing old cat lady territory and trying really really hard to find me a man/date" like an old woman wearing bare midriff shirts and hanging with her kids or grandkids.

I'd like to also add that at an older age (30s and above) it looks tacky and not at all classy. A pass is given to the hot bodied 30-40 year old women who wear midriff revealing (i.e., sports bra type shirts) at the CrossFit gyms though. A woman working hard on her fitness is forgiven for a lot of things. Besides, Im sure it feels great for them while sweating up a storm with intense workouts. For women doing it to hang out at bars restaurants malls, etc. then yuck. Pop open a can of Schlitz Bessie while sitting outside of your trailer.
