My "What's For Dinner?" selections will take me to the road this week, as I am on vacation. I'm making stops in Austin, Houston, and College Station, Texas. The list of places below will be some probables for dinner, even though a few of them might be visited for lunch. In keeping with the dinner topic, these are the places I plan to go to for supper this week:
1. Matt's El Rancho, Austin, TX - Expected dishes: chicken flautas (possible appetizer), cheese or beef enchiladas, beans, rice, and guacamole.
2. Goode Company Barbecue, Houston - Expected dishes: beef brisket, pork ribs, Czech sausage, potato salad (these guys make the best), jambalaya, and jalapeno-cheese bread.
3. Cleburne Cafeteria, Houston - Never been there before, but I know it's legendary and I've always wanted to try it. Expected dishes: to be determined, but will choose from chicken-fried chicken, chicken-fried steak, baked or fried fish, greens, pinto beans, macaroni and cheese, biscuits or rolls, and either green or black-eyed peas. Still thinking about it.
4. Guadalajara Hacienda, Houston - Expected dishes: tamales, crispy beef taco, cheese or chicken enchilada, papas or frijoles, rice.
5. Casey's Seafood, Galveston - Expected dishes: broiled cod, sea scallops, shrimp, potatoes au gratin. May do something Cajun if I'm tempted.
6. J Cody's Steaks and BBQ, College Station - Never been there before, but it's likely the expected dish would be a steak (either ribeye or sirloin) and a baked potato.
So, there you are for this week. See you when I get back, and bon appetit!
I just made another batch of broccoli slaw. I could live on that stuff. I have some chicken to make but I just had some of the slaw and I feel good for the night, maybe...
Deep-fried, battered halibut fish tacos...only in pita pockets with coleslaw, hot sauce and black beans...need my hottie fix
