Wisconsin's southern border should be redrawn to encompass Chicago. Illinois will pay similar taxes soon anyway, and people from Chicago spend an inordinate amount of time at cabins and rv parks in Wisconsin. It feels more like part of Wisconsin than the rest of snoozeville Illinois. Willynois?

Merging NC and SC?? yeah right maybe 20% on each side would like that idea... if anything I suspect many in NC would like to split up. Especially Western NC and Charlotte (who complain about the eastern/piedmont regions running and ruining everything).

I imagine Chicago splitting from Illinois would be highly popular for both sides, much like NYC and NYS.

Florida, a classic swing state could easily be 3 states ("north", central, and southern). Central florida seems to have it the best as they pretty much decide the politics of the state (north and south FL more or less cancelling each other out).

Good luck merging any new england states, they may be small but they do NOT all get along... heck half of maine wants to be rid of the other half.

and one other thing, people in Georgia need to give up on the whole "tennessee stole are land" re: their northern border and how it was supposed to be on the 35th parallel

First of all, "stole" is relative (ask the natives about that).

Second, many a border in the U.S. which was supposed to be drawn on a line of lat/long got messed up, especially the earlier the border was drawn (GPS didnt work too well back then). the NC/VA and TN/KY borders are all FUBAR, the NC/SC border is a monument to bad surveying (especially since they didn't put Charlotte in SC, where it belongs ). All those lines are generally accepted despite their screwed-up-ness... yours is no different, everyone knows its a water grab.

You want to talk about getting screwed over with regard to land... talk to Maryland

Just let South Jersey separate, which was attempted about 1980. That would be Burlington County, Camden County, Gloucester Count, Salem County, Atlantic County, Cumberland County, & Cape May County. The same counties who tried to separate the last time.

fun thread and I will play! As a Floridian let the "Redneck" Riviera be swallowed as in the Panhandle to Alabama & Georgia! We are not "Southerners" we don't eat "grits" or drink "sweet tea" unless it comes from a Lipton Ice Tea can!

We might as well be our own country...we used to be. Us Texans want for not. Everything is here already & would last us the next 1,000 years if we were on our own again.

Texas has 3 of the top 10 largest US cities (more than California) & one of the highest grossing economy's in the World today.
Jealousy has nothing to do with it; no one is envious of Texas, to put it mildly..

Agreed. South Jersey is a good-sounding name too.

Maybe someone should really work on the map of Maryland; "strange" doesn't begin to describe it..
Southern Illinois is a transition zone, and really is kind of its own thing. Same thing with Southern Indiana and much of Southern Missouri. Southern Illinois, has Illinois, Missouri, Indiana, and Kentucky mixed into it. It is half-southern and half-Midwestern. While the southern influences are much stronger than other areas of the state, it still feels very much like Illinois except when you get south of Marion.

I'd propose possibly splitting Pennsylvania in half (east to west), and dividing upstate New York into three states. New York City should be given to New Jersey, western New York and western Pennsylvania should be lumped into the Midwest. The Northern panhandle of West Virginia would be grouped in with the western half of Pennsylvania. Eastern Pennsylvania stays in the Northeast. Pittsburgh, Buffalo, and Syracuse all have a lot more in common with the Great Lakes cities to the west than with the Northeast.
