I didn't even know that one, coming from someone that posted earlier in the thread that West Virginia is the closest state to a Great Lake without actually touching one.

Lake Winnipeg could pass for a sixth Great Lake if it was closer to Lake Superior.

Montreal and Toronto aren't even as far north as Houlton, Maine (the northernmost municipality to have an Interstate 95 exit)

There are only 22 states that have any area farther north than the northernmost border of California, which are highlighted in blue.

Lots of these seem to be oddities simply because people don't realize a flat map is a bad way to envision a round world.

It's a shorter drive from Huntington, West Virginia to the Indiana state (and almost the Illinois state line) than it is to Berkeley Springs, West Virginia.

This is an oddity for people in Kentucky, but Kentucky borders Virginia *gasp*

Kentucky is also NOT in the Middle of the country as many Kentuckians think. In fact it is with absolute certainty in the Eastern portion and is only one state away from the Atlantic Ocean.

These things are odd and sometimes unbelievable to people who live in Kentucky. Talk about bad schooling.

The rest of the country considers it an oddity that there's no Interstate highway that crosses the Kentucky-Virginia border. Since Kentucky and Virginia are usually grouped together in regional debate topics.

Also, Kentucky is closer to the Atlantic Ocean than places directly north of it because of the US Atlantic Coast's Northeast-Southwest slant with Cape Cod, the Outer Banks, and Florida being exceptions.

Isn't Louisville in the Eastern Time Zone? That might be an oddity as well. Wonder what city (over 100k) is the furthest west and still EST?
