To put it crudely, I’ve always figured the “rivalry” generally boils down to Boston not licking New York’s boots as much as the latter expects it to. Whenever I talk to friends who live in NYC, they’ll start on about “that thing De Blasio did” or “some new regulation that’s in place” and expect me to just know what they’re talking about. Like, I love NYC. I go down often to see musicals, go to art museums, and eat at trendy restaurants. Beyond that, I pay it as little mind as I do any other city that I don’t live in. A lot of NY people seem to find that unacceptable.
Yeah a lot of people n NYC think you should know exactly what happens there and that they live in the center of the universe.I honestly couldn't give two ****s about what happens there and I moved out because living in NYC is absolute crap unless your super-rich. I like NYC, I dont think its the best city in the US... not even top 10 on my list.. and that will reallly get off some New Yorkers. So yeah Bostonians putting the reality into New Yorkers that "no .. your city isnt the best buddy" is probably contributing to the rivalry.

No offense to any New Yorker here, its just an observation seen by many. But at the end of the day, we all love our cities.

I don't need to mention baseball. Don't watch hockey.

In sports will say the eagles giants rivalry is bigger than any other football rvialries among these three cities, its the only sports rivalry among these cities that even comes close to Yanks/Sox Met and Phillies are decent rivals but not Yanks Sox

would probably say
Sox Yanks
Eagles Giants
Phillies Mets
Jets Pats

in terms of rivalry

for hoops for me the Sixers Celtics would be a bigger sports rival as a sixers fan than Sixers Knicks or Nets

On Hockey would say Flyers rangers would be for me, though the Penguins may be the biggest hockey rival for Philly

^Probably Philly, but I’d revive a proper “Boston vs Philly” thread for that discussion.
