^^ It was a pretty good "feel good" song, I'm surprised by how popular it was nationwide and not just in the Southwest/West Coast.
It was aa somewhat new sound we hadn't heard and everyone liked Summer Nights!
Also, Churban/Latin urban stations were expanding greatly and this song was dominating Rhythmic/Crossover airwaves, in conjunction with the explosive growth of Hispanic Americans.
Then you have Q Philly, a Boston rapper who moved here from Philly. "Philly, P on my head, wear that "sh-t like a crown" (a different song than what's here)
What separates Philly rap from the other NE cities IMO is the prevalence of Trap-N-B rappers similar to Baltimore and the South. I'd argue PNB Rock was one of the first mainstream artist of that genre.
