I;m a native Southern Californian but left for 15 years. Now, I am back and I currently live in San Diego. I don't care for it, not my cup of tea. I live here because my husband got a job here. I dream about getting out all the time. I would love to move to San Fran or Seattle but I would have to divorce my husband if I wanted to leave
Just curious as to anyone that doesn't like the city they currently live in... tell me why, what brought you there, where would you like to live and what are you doing about getting out?
I don't necessarily hate the city I'm in, but I'd love to move by the end of this school year for a change.
I want to go to upstate NY along the hudson river, mainly Albany, if not the Albany area. (I lived in Troy and didn't like it too much, but I loved Albany)

Yes, I'm not happy with where I currently live, but it's not a city; it's a town of about 13,000. I live in northern New Jersey.
I live here because I grew up here and in the area, went to public school here, have family/friends in the area, and work within a reasonable commuting distance.
What brought me here? I moved with my family when I was 6-7 months old. a long long time ago, from Illinois.
I hate this area because of the extreme overpopulation, corruption, pollution, crime, horrible weather, rude people, and I just don't like the NYC area in general. It's the last area of the country I would move to if I could make the independent choice.
I'd like to live in the South, specifically in Louisiana, and have been researching and looking into the Lafayette and Bossier City areas.
What am I doing? Saving money and tying up loose ends. I'd like to move within a year or so; the longest would be 18 months.

Albany isn't generally considered upstate NY.
I would take the Hudson Valley towns over anything in the immediate NYC area in a heartbeat though.

When I lived in Troy it was always recognized as Upstate. Albany/Troy is parallel to NoMA/SoVT, it's pretty "up-state"
But yeah same here, I always had a love affair with the hudson valley. But there's plenty of places in NNJ I'd choose over Albany (Hackensack NOT being one of them), but affordability is the factor to get me moving regardless
Cleveland, don't hate it but don't love it,very underrated city.
Girlfriend brought me here,as shes doing a semester here.
Moving in a couple months, most likely back to SF,though was thinking back (lived with family for a short time before) to London for a year would be nice, but I'm looking at a couple places across the states. Upper New England (NH,VT,ME) Would also be nice to be in for awhile but I'm thinking I'll move there later in life as I won't want to leave
I move a lot (5 times last year) and nearly always on a whim so for now it's up in the air.
Currently live in Dallas; would love to move to Philadelphia. I moved to Dallas for job, and am trying to move my job to Center City Philadelphia. Why? I don't dislike Dallas but it's just not my city. I have always wanted to live in a big Northeast city with tons and tons of density, easy, walkable communities within/close to downtown, a more liberal attitude (though I realize Philly isn't progressive...for that I'd have to move to San Fran or Portland or Seattle), and top notch universities. If I had the money, I'd pick Manhattan, but since I don't, I think Center City Philadelphia is a close approximation for now.
My wife went to school in Saratoga Springs, about a 1/2 hour north of Albany, and has always considered it to be "upstate". Maybe things change immediately north of Albany?

Most people I've heard from generally say that "anything north of Albanÿ" is upstate.
Live in Boston and love it. New England has everything that I could want and more. Big cities, small towns, mountains, skiing, beaches, boating, top notch outdoors/sports/nightlife/dining/casinos/the arts. And it's all relatively compact.
I've lived all over the country, and I've come to the conclusion that people underrate having four seasons. It's a great variety and although consistently nice weather is pleasant, I find it gets bland after a few years.
