A woman, born in Iran, and living in another country for 2 decades told me that immigration is not a melting pot, it is a mosaic. It took me a while to figure out what she was saying ... I now understand that to mean that the idea is to retain one's own culture regardless of which country one lives. The melting pot is moving to a new country and melting into the culture, the mosaic is transplanting one's culture to a new country.
Why is Xenophobia a bad thing? I only want to associate with native English speaking American citizens who love America more than everything but their mother. I make no apology for that.
