Any updates on the Westin I came to Greensboro two weeks after closing on my apartment downtown. And it looks like there is no movement.
According to the Mayor, actual construction will begin in the spring. All the legal issues have been work out with Scarfone/Cone Denim Entertainment Center. Plus Its been a complex project with the city being involved with the deck.

For some reason, my fellow A&T alumni think the property will be ready/bookable for homecoming 2019. I wouldn't bet on that.

No way its going to be completed in 2019. The Elm Street Center group and the developer wants it open in time for the National Figure Skating Championships, ACC Tournament, NCAA games and Tanger Center opening in 2020 and thats pushing it. But if it had not been for delays, it would have opened spring of 2019. I say it will be complete summer or the end of 2020. But thats assuming construction starts in spring of 2019 like the mayor says. The city needs to stay on top of this though and do their part to get construction moving because further delays could lead to Westin backing out as the flag. Westin isn't going to wait forever. I can't see any other luxury flag coming to Greensboro at this point in time. Maybe Hyatt Regency. But I'd hate to settle for a mid tier flag if the city screws up something that should be a slam dunk.
City Council OKs contractor to build parking deck at Bellemeade and Eugene Streets for no more than $22 million. Original plans were to build a more expensive glass deck which would have served as the base for a 15 to 20 story tower built by Roy Carroll. Because of the tight schedule with Project Slugger at the ballpark, Carroll's timeline didn't match up so the city will build its own less ambitious deck separately from Roy Carroll. Carroll however will build a hotel, residential and office on the opposite corner at Eugene and Friendly Ave and also fronting Eugene St around the deck.
