I guess they are all going since Walgreens has acquired Rite Aid in SC. I guess Save-a lot is not taking over the Greenville area dual branded stores own their own.

I believe so for now. One of the employees told me last year it would be remodeled into a full fledged Walgreens's. Not sure if they are still planning on doing that.

I thought they had closed like a year ago or so. Didnt look like lights were on, and no cars in the lot the few times I had been by there.

They had some weird hours, It was just like the one in five forks that closed down a few years ago the hours were odd and it was never open when people needed it I dont think.

For an intents and purposes it has been out of biz for a while now. I’m thinking pharmacy officially closing next and other merchandise around end of July. There was a time I hoped QT would put a store there / along with the old Pantry / site.

The Rite Aid in Powdersville is also closing (3455 Highway 153 in Piedmont, SC) and transferring business across the intersection to the Walgreens in Powdersville (3501 Highway 153. Greenville, SC 29611). They have different city addresses due to the lack of a zip code for Powdersville but are across the road from each other at the same intersection of Hwy 153 and Anderson Road (Hwy 81).

It seems like they are closing more stores than they are converting.

Three ZIP Codes cover Powdersville: 29611 (Greenville, South Carolina); 29642 (Easley, South Carolina); 29673 (Piedmont, South Carolina). If the number of locations receiving mail in sectors and segments covering Powdersville increase, Powdersville should be assigned a new ZIP Code. ZIP Code 29674 is unassigned.

Walgreen's is closing more stores indeed. Many Walgreen's stores are within direct competition against CVS. There is not another drugstore competitor with freestanding stores that could come in and compete against Walgreen's and CVS. Many Rite Aid stores in South Carolina will go dark.

There are also parts of what most people consider Powdersville within the Pelzer and Willamston zip codes. I think Powdersville is larger than Piedmont, Pelzer, or Williamston and is long overdue for its own zip code. A lot of the market research that is done to determine where to locate chain stores is based on zip codes, which is problematic for Powdersville since it doesn't conveniently fall into that type of market research.

Most of these Rite Aid stores are converted Eckerd stores that were never profitable for either chain. At one time, Walgreens had an organic growth only model that slowed their growth but insured that growth was done intelligently. With the merger with Boots Alliance, they have scrapped that policy and are now agressively buying competitors. I've heard it was less of a merger and more of a takeover by Boots Alliance.
