I am late to the party (I just read about the upcoming BridgeWay development).
This proposal has me shaking my head.
Actually, my issue is not with BridgeWay per se, but the way the surrounding infrastructure ISN'T being built up to accommodate this large, planned use, development.
Holland Road features four lanes (2 + 2), when the road should be seven lanes (3 + 3, plus a center turning lane).
At a minimum, a center turning lane, and right turn lanes, should have been installed before the first shovel of dirt was moved at the BridgeWay site.
This is nuts.
Traffic congestion is a major quality of life issue, which robs people of their time and energy. It makes even civil people behave in a way that's uncivilized.
This type of growth will forever change the characteristics and qualities of the Greenville area. Growth is okay, but not when the infrastructure can't support the proposed growth.
I can't believe that local planners signed off on this.
At least Holland has 4 lanes. Much of the development along neighboring Woodruff and E. Butler was approved when much of it was just 2 lanes. Guess that's an improvement.
I hope you are right, certainly a step in the right direction if they are willing to do it.
But Hughes could be talking about re-aligning a road or making sure the city has enough right-a-way to make improvements for instance.
Quote:
Hughes Investments "is committed" to making whatever improvements prove necessary to "maintain acceptable levels of service with regard to traffic," according to the city.
Didn’t see it elsewhere so revived this thread. Mauldin approved pedestrian bridge across i385 for as part of BridgeWay development project for future Swamp Rabbit Trail connection.
