The bus system isn't as great as you might think, it's very unreliable, never on time and it takes forever to get to places. sometimes it will take me about an hour to get to downtown from Makiki.

Jeepers Creepers, out of curiosity, I'm wondering where you live? You are able to offer a lot of advice about Hawaii, did you live here before (if not now)? ["What school did you grad?" ]

"Wen grad?" Disclaimer: I would not EVER pretend to speak Pidgen but after twelve years here with extensive exposure to it I actually do understand it...mostly, LOL.
A few years ago I got what I consider to be a most lovely kudo from a totally locally West Side kupuna. "Oh, you a haole but you been here a long time and you know." Accompanied by a honi and a whispered "aloha." Priceless. A rite of passing, IMHO, and totally treasured.
Yep. Gotta love all the advice from people who gathered internet data, decided against it, and now offer tips to people trying to figure out whether or not to come here.

The first comment attributed to my post you cited, was incomplete-
I had extracted ANOTHER one comment below, about the bus system, that I felt was in error , and made MY one line "shocked" comment "UNDER" it :

(MY post, commenting on the above- you omitted))
"I am shocked". (NOTE-excellent bus system, congested traffic Oahu)
Hopefully, now, you can sleep better.
PS: When my autobiography releases, I'll let you know. (Grad school info is on my resume)

That's why quotation marks are so useful, or using the wrap tag icon, so that others can tell what is a quote and what is an original comment.

I'll just wait for the reunion photos to be posted.
Just wondering if the OP and his family ever went to Hawaii and what their thoughts are - my husband has a transfer to the Big Island on the horizon and this thread has been very helpful to us. Any updates OP?

We are here in Maui and love it!!!! I was able to get a travel position at Maui Memorial three weeks ago and our experience thus far has been so much better than we could have asked for.
We sold our new Subaru and Lexus in Colorado and bought an older "beater" here. 1. Downsize car payments....check
Renting a smaller condo a block from the beach with half the rent of our home in Colorado. 2. Downsized house payment...check
Sold all of our clothing except three or four pairs of shorts, tank tops, sandles, and running shoes. 3. Downsized wardrobe....check
We go to the beach and swim, sun bathe, walk at dusk, watch locals surf, have a couple beers at local joints. 4. Downsized our busy and expensive lifestyle....check.
I realize we have only been here less than a month, but thus far we are accomplishing everything we wanted to. The hospital has already asked me to take a permanent position, but we want to see the other islands before we decide to settle down permanently. The people are the nicest people we have been around thus far. We feel like we fit in by driving an old vehicle, a lot of alohas just riding down the road.
Things really have become simpler since we got here. No more keeping up with the Jones. I work three days a week and the other four we relax on the beach or drink a beer on our lanai.
Noah, what a great post. You're livin' the dream. Aloha!
