My husband works in one of the oil refineries in Houston. I am assuming your SO would be working off of Highway 225 in the Pasadena area? There are various refineries in various locations (Houston, Channelview, Texas City, etc). For us to give you any help with where to live, we need to know where he will be working.

We live in the NE - the the Humble/Atascocita area. Love it up here - decent commut (~40 minutes), lots of trees, good area, great schools, safe, there's shopping and restaurants, and some great neighborhoods.

If he's working in the Pasadena area, I would suggest Kingwood/Humble/Atascocita area in the NE, or the Clear Lake/League City/Friendswood/Pearland area further south.

Sugar Land would not be a good commute - too far. Which is one reason we didn't move there. Same thing for the Woodlands - we love it there, but the commute would be awful for him. Spring might be pushing the commute - depends on where you settled.

If you are truly at the refineries - then I would suggest Clear Lake or if you want to be in Houston Fallcreek off of Beltway 8

Actually Summerwood would be closer and probably cheaper.

okay.. hmm so to answer some questions... hes coming on a K1 visa.. not as a visitor.. wanna do it right!!! LOL

as for the refineries.. narrowing it down to get better areas to live.. let me know what ya all think.....
there are refineries in Houston, Deer park, Pasadena, Baytown, & Beaumont.. within these 5 locations there are 6 refineries.. leaving out texas city, corpus christi and port arthur..... so is the woodlands and Spring still too far?all look well within the hour commute if need be.. staying even and to the right of houston....if he cant get the refinery jobs for a while (waiting on the green card application giving him permission to work) hes good at finding under the table jobs (wish i was) doing handyman stuff and construction...hes already started the process and its gonna take up to a year to get the ball rolling till were actually moving there to Texas.. (we talking December of 2012)like the middle!
a new home for Christmas! im big on the outdoors and biking and canoing and SHOPPING! woo hoo!.. so keep the comment coming please.. im researching all i find and i really appreciate the feedback.
